Harlem Wizards' player Swoop makes friends with the crowd during Wednesday's game with the Kane Lobos. Swoop and his teammates entertained the capacity crowd with their amazing basketball skills and their crazy antics. The event was a fundraiser for the Kane Elementary PTO.
MT. JEWETT â€“ A Mt. Jewett teenager is organizing a local campaign to assist victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Andrew Carlson, 17, said he is collecting cash, toys, non-perishable food, bottled water and other items to help the victims of the storm.
Edgar C. â€śEdâ€ť Sluga, 86, of Mt. Jewett, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side, on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012.
Born Feb. 6, 1926, in Mt. Jewett, he was a son of the late Frank and Mary Sluga.Â He was married to Lois E. Paulson Sluga, his partner of 66 years, who preceded him in death.
Ed was an extremely hard-working man who could fix, engineer and build just about anything; a true â€śjack-of-all tradesâ€ť and master of all.
SMETHPORT â€“ For many years, McKean County has had two elected jury commissioners to oversee the process by which jurors are selected.
These jobs soon may be abolished under a resolution before the McKean County Board of Commissioners.

Beverly Mae Blystone, 91, died on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at the home of her daughter after a long illness.
She was born in Kane on March 16, 1921, daughter of the late Esther and John Flower.Â Beverly was preceded in death by her husband Harry whom she married on Dec. 18, 1944.Â
Bev lived most of her life in Kane where she worked for Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator for more than 20 years.Â She then worked at Stackpole Carbon until her retirement in 1983.Â Bev and Harry moved to Ocala, Fla. after retirement where she lived until 2004 when she moved to Erie.
Carl Marcel Bergquist of Fairport, N.Y., died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012.
He was employed by the American Can Company for 45 years as a lithographer. He was an Eagle Scout for the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge of Geneva, Mendon Golf Club and member of Local Battle of Bulge WWII. He was called back for the Korean Conflict.
He was predeceased by parents Victor and Anna; his wife, Thelma C.; a sister, Norma Bergquist; three cousins, Alan Bergquist, Germain (Sam) Caruso, and Patricia Brown; and his good friends Dan and Gwen Winagle.
Sixteen hunters entered their bucks in the Kane Fish and Game Club's annual Mr. Big Buck Contest held on Monday night.
At 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the newly opened Untangled Salon.Â
Santa Claus stands and rings bells as he greets wide-eyed children along the route of the Santa Parade held Saturday in Kane. Mrs. Claus and elves accompanied Santa on one of the floats in the parade sponsored by the Kane Chamber of Commerce.
