An "army" of volunteers turned out Friday for the third annual "KARE For Kane" program to spruce up the community.
Those who stepped forward to volunteer consider the activity a labor of love.

The Kane Wolvesâ€™ baseball team trailed the Smethport Hubbers 10-6 going into the top of the seventh inning before the storm hit. While Mother Nature unleashed terrific winds and driving rain as the game was called, the visiting Hubbers unleashed a barrage at the plate, scoring seven runs before the game was called with the score 17-6.

Viola M. Swedenhjelm, 73, of 33 Tionesta Ave., Kane, died Wednesday afternoon, May 8, 2013 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born Jan. 8, 1940 in Kane, she was the daughter of Harry B. and Helen A. Herron Umpleby.Â On Aug. 8, 1959 in Kane, she married Lawrence A. Swedenhjelm, who survives.
A member of the First United Methodist Church, Viola worked at Stackpole for many years until its closure, thenÂ was a dietary aide at the Residential Care Center, and lastly, at The Lutheran Home at Kane, retiring in 2007.
The Kane Lady Wolves trailed DuBois Central Catholic Lady Cardinals 2-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning on Wednesday at Szymanski Field. The Lady Wolves rallied to tie it up in the bottom of the seventh and wound up winning in the bottom of the eighth to improve their record to 10-4 on the season.
