Major repairs are under consideration for the indoor swimming pool at Kane High School.
Preliminary estimates place the price-tag for just the high-priority repairs at about $260,000.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Kane senior Kaila Jamerson wouldn't let the Lady Wolves lose to the Ramettes Monday night.
A series of six straight points by Jamerson would propel the Lady Wolves first into double overtime and then to a lead Kane would not relinquish as the Lady Wolves won 42-37 in double overtime over Johnsonburg Monday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
The Kane Wolves hung with the visiting Johnsonburg Rams for the first five minutes of Mondayâ€™s game but the Rams exploded for a 40-8 finish to the first half to send them on their way to an 80-44 win.
Both teams struggled in the early going.
SMETHPORT â€“ A part-time position of secretary has been created at the McKean County Jail near Smethport.
The McKean County Board of Commissioners voted 2-1 earlier this month to create the position at the rate of $11 per hour.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Kane has made a donation of $1,300 to the Kane Senior Center.
Victor H. Peterson, age 92, of Lantz Corners, formerly of Kushequa, passed away at home unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013.Â
He was born May 14, 1920, in Bradford, son of the late Ivan and BedaÂ Samuelson Peterson.Â On Aug. 16, 1947, he married Joyce V. Martinson in the Kushequa Union Church.Â
Anthony G. Haulik, 87, of 100 High Point Dr., passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at Kane Community Hospital.
Born Jan. 30, 1925, in James City, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marie Urban Haulik.Â On Jan. 25, 1949, in Kane, he married Carol Leoffler who preceded him in death.
Mr. Haulik had worked as a credit manager for the Sarasota Herald Tribune in Florida where he had previously resided.Â He belonged to the D.A.V. and St. Callistus Catholic Church and was a past member of the Kane Elks Lodge.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, attaining the rank of Tec 5.
The Kane Lady Wolvesâ€™ basketball team improved to 13-3 on the season with a win over Sheffield on Friday night in the Wolvesâ€™ Den, but it wasnâ€™t easy. The visitors led for most of the first three quarters of the contest before Kane erased a big deficit in the third and converted six of six free throws in the final minute to seal the win.
State compulsory education laws require children to attend school until they're 17.
Skipping school is not tolerated in the Kane Area School District.

Charles E. Rolfe, Jr., 57, of 17262 Kevin Dr., Meadville,Â formerly of Kane, passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 at Meadville Medical Center.
Born Nov. 27, 1955,Â he was a son of Charles E.Â and Ann Zuzek Rolfe Sr.Â On Sept. 20, 1986, in Meadville, he married Kelly S. Weidow who survives.
Charles was a State Police officer and was a corporal at the time of his retirement in 2010 at Meadville.Â He had also been stationed at various timesÂ at Clarion, Franklin, Washington and Mt. Jewett.
