The Kane Wolves varsity soccer team traveled to Ridgway Tuesday afternoon to take on the Ridgway Elkers for the third game of the season and came away with a 3-0 shutout win.
Due to Friday’s scheduled home game with Dubois Central Catholic being cancelled because of weather, Kane had their third straight league game on the road.
In a match that started and ended poorly but was well played in the middle, the Lady Wolves fell short against the Elk County Crusaders in a five-set match.
"We started off on the wrong foot by allowing ECC point runs in the first game and allowing them to control us," said Kane head girls varsity volleyball coach Judy Kessler. "Then in our middle games we did a lot of good things, passing well and attacking well from good setting.
"At the end of the match, once we were in trouble at 5-0 it all just sort of crumbled from underneath us."
I’ve mentioned hummingbirds many times in my writings, but never have actually written much about them. We are only a week or so from fall, and, yes, I still have my hummingbird feeder up. I watched two hummers this morning, so they are still around. Taking down your hummingbird feeders on Labor Day doesn’t send a message to these little guys to go south. They know when to go, and your hummingbird feeders have nothing to do with it.
The Kane girls soccer team falls to an aggressive Ridgway team 5-0.
"We weren't able to play to our strengths and capitalize on some of the scoring opportunities we were given," said Kane head girls soccer coach Allie Saquin. "The Ridgway team wanted it more than us, that was the bottom line; they played well as a team and took control of the field for the majority of the game.
The young Lady Wolves hosted their annual JV tournament Saturday as seven teams battled it out on the court for the first place trophy. In a single bracket format, the Wolves had an opportunity to play all the other teams and gained a lot of court experience.
"The tournaments are great for the girls because they get to play through so many different game situations and it’s such a great learning experience for them," said Kane head girls varsity volleyball coach Judy Kessler. "We did a lot of good things today and worked on those things that are our weaknesses.Â
