HERSHEY - The Kane country teams finished the season at the state meet in Hershey on Saturday.
Taylor Beimel, Kristen Boyer, Avery Colson and Jon Gelsick all competed in the event, and all would have fine races in the final race of the year.
Lane returns as county commissioner
SMETHPORT -- Cliff Lane will be returning to the McKean County Board of Commissioners.
According o complete, but unofficial totals, Lane defeated incumbent Judy Church by 276 votes for a seat on the board. Both are Democrats. Lane is from Turtlepoint. Church is from Smethport. Lane received 2,552 votes and Church had 2,276, based on unofficial totals.
Incumbent Republican Commissioners Joe DeMott of Port Allegany and Al Pingie of Bradford Township both won re-election to the board. DeMott received 3,519 votes and Pingie had 3,283.
David M. Newpher, 61, of 78 Windy City Rd., James City, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011 at UPMC Hamot in Erie from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident near James City earlier Sunday.
Born May 8, 1950 in Kane, he was the son of Ronald J. and Marjorie E. Porter Newpher, who survive.
Mr. Newpher was employed as a truck driver.
Surviving, in addition to his parents of James City, are a son, Damon Newpher of Bradford; sisters Cindy Morris of Kane, Janice Hulings and Deborah Sherwin; and a brother, Jim Newpher of James City.

Jesse A. Fithian, 98, formerly of Northern Area Homes, Russell, died Saturday evening, Nov. 5, 2011 at the Warren Manor after a brief illness.Â
He was born Sept. 8, 1913 in Butler, to the late James Herbert and Carrie Mae Parker Fithian. He has resided in Russell since 2001 and was formerly of Parker and Titusville. He was a graduate of Parker High School Class of 1932.
Polls open at 7 a.m. Tuesday for a general election that features candidates for many local positions.
Polling takes place from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. All registered voters are eligible to vote.
There are 25,347 registered voters in McKean County. According to the state Bureau of Elections, this total includes 2,089 in Kane, 1,176 in Wetmore Township, 574 in Mt. Jewett, 482 in Hamlin Township and 373 in Hamilton Township.
Three local races will be drawing attention Tuesday and all three involve write-in candidates.

Donations collected during the annual United Fund drive go to 18 community-service organizations.
Without the United Fund assistance, some of these organizations would need to eliminate or reduce the services they provide.
âEvery dollar you give goes right back into our local community in the form of services,â United Fund Board President Jennifer Macey said. âNo donation is too small.â
Richard L. âDickâ Clevenger Sr. of James City, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at Kane Community Hospital after a brief illness.
Born Aug. 17, 1938, in Fisher, he was a son of Benjamin and Dorothy Rhodes Clevenger.
Mr. Clevenger served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960.Â Later in Life, he joined the Army National Guard and served with the Kane Unit for 20 years.Â During that time they were deployed for service in support of Operation Desert Storm in Iraq.
SMETHPORT â There are four candidates in Tuesday's election for three seats on the McKean County Board of Commissioners.
Incumbents who are seeking re-election include Republican Joe DeMott of Port Allegany, Republican Al Pingie of Bradford Township and Democrat Judy Church of Smethport. The challenger is Democrat Cliff Lane of Annin Township, a former county commissioner.
Voters will be asked to cast ballots for two of the four candidates. The top three vote-getters will comprise the new county Board of Commissioners.
