Snow-plowing complaints heard by Kane officials

There was a familiar winter "whine" at Monday's meeting of the Kane Borough Council.
Mayor "Yogi" Osmer and council members say they've received numerous complaints from borough residents who aren't happy with snow-plowing operations.
Similar complaints are heard every winter in Kane.
The mayor said he has received "quite a few complaints" about snow-plowing in the borough. He said residents claim the plows aren't removing snow "between parked vehicles."

Charges 'bound over' to court in dog cruelty case

Charges against a Mt. Jewett man in an alleged dog cruelty case have been "bound over" to McKean County Court following a preliminary hearing Monday.
Kane District Court Judge Dave Engman "bound over" the charges against Tyler Blair Rush, 34, of 53 E. Main St., Mt. Jewett after the 69-minute hearing that was laced with graphic testimony.
Co-defendant Ashley Reinard, 24, of 11 Boyd St., Mt. Jewett, waived her preliminary hearing Monday, Her case also is headed to county court.

Kane council names deputy tax collector

The Kane Borough Council voted 5-1 Monday to name a deputy property tax collector.
The Kane deputy collector is Becky Gullifer, the current tax collector for Wetmore Township.
Gullifer would handle borough property tax collections only if elected Kane Tax Collector Marianne Rook becomes incapacitated.

Money secured for Kane police body camera

Money has been secured for a body camera for use by the Kane Borough Police Department.
Lynda Schul of Janeway Street said Monday that a recent $165 donation from Alaska would be sufficient to buy the first body camera for the Kane Police Department.
Speaking at a meeting of the Kane Borough Council, she said the donation is coming from a friend of her son, Lance. She said Lance, a 1989 graduate of Kane Area High School, is a police officer in Colorado.

Wolves roll to 52-34 win over Hubbers

The Kane Wolves boys’ basketball team hosted the Smethport Hubbers in a non-league game on Monday night. Coach Matt Gasbarre’s Wolves outscored the visitors 13-2 to close out the first quarter and went on to post a 52-34 win.
Sophomore Dalton Palmer put Smethport on the scoreboard first after putting back up an offensive rebound. Kane sophomore Andrew Bucheit scored the next two baskets for the Wolves in the paint, the first coming on a nice entry pass from Davis Gardner.

Kane makes 6 requests for county Act 13 funds

The borough of Kane has submitted five applications for funds from the county's pot of Act 13 revenue linked with Marcellus Shale gas well drilling activities.
In addition, the Kane Volunteer Fire Department has submitted another application.
The Kane applications are among 18 new funding requests submitted for review by the McKean County Planning Commission. 
The McKean County Board of Commissioners has designated the planning board to review and rank the applications. The commission previously received just three applications to rank. 

Kane man turns hobby into new business

For the past four years, Ed Gadley of Kane has been a regular bidder at auctions involving storage units.
He's now turning his hobby into a business.
His "LIttle Black Egg Variety/Consignment Shop" will open Jan. 15 at 14 Greeves St. in Kane.
Gadley and his wife, Jaeme plan to operate the store from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday from from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
