Fire damages building in early morning blaze

Investigators have located multiple points of origin in an early morning blaze which heavily damaged a commercial building Friday in St. Marys.
Fire companies from across Elk County responded to 590 S. St. Marys St. in St. Marys throughout the morning.
The fire has been determined to be incendiary in nature according to the Ridgway-based state police. St. Marys City Police are assisting with the investigation which is currently ongoing.
The structure sustained damages estimated in excess of $500,000. It is currently owned by Chris W. Pistner, 47, of St. Marys.

Duck held for court in domestic dispute

JOHNSONBURG – A preliminary hearing was held before Magisterial District Judge George A. "Tony" King of Johnsonburg Wednesday in the case of Robert William Duck, 36, of Kane.
"He said he was going to kill himself and that he wanted to cut my head off and put it on a stake," said the victim, Annette Peterson of James City during her testimony.
Duck was held for county court on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, harassment and criminal mischief for a Dec. 23, 2014 incident, in which he allegedly followed Peterson around the house with a knife and prevented her from leaving.

Emporium apartments go up in flames

EMPORIUM – Authorities are still investigating the origin of a fire that spread through four apartment units early Tuesday morning in a West 4th Street house in Emporium.
Initial reports indicated smoke and flames showing at 234 W. 4th St. as Cameron County 14 (Emporium Fire Department), Emporium Ambulance, and St. Marys Ambulance were called out shortly before 3 a.m.

Kane boys defeat AC Valley in North Clarion Tournament

The Kane boys’ varsity basketball team rebounded from a Friday night loss to the hosts to win Saturday’s consolation game of the North Clarion Holiday Tournament against AC Valley. The Wolves’ junior varsity team won the title with wins over North Clarion and AC Valley.

Betty R. Farnsworth, 91, formerly of 106 Tionesta Ave. since 1946, died Friday evening, Dec. 26, 2014 at the Lutheran Home at Kane where she resided since January of 2011.
Born May 13, 1923 in Heath Township, Jefferson County, she was the daughter of Jacob and Bessie Rhodes.
On Aug. 10, 1946 in Pleasant Hill, Jefferson County, she married Francis “Baloney” Farnsworth, who died in July of 2001.

Lt. Col. Johnston presents VFW Post with flag

Kane native U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Mike Johnston presented King David Post 1132 VFW with a flag that was flown over his base in Afghanistan in recognition of their support for area service members.
Lt. Col. Johnston and his wife, Jennifer, also a Kane native, presented the flag along with a corresponding certificate to VFW officials and volunteers on Saturday morning.
