Hamlin Township supervisors suspend treasurer

HAZEL HURST – The Hamlin Township Board of Supervisors voted 3-0 Monday to suspend the township secretary-treasurer.
Supervisors Don Compton, Joni Britton and Guy Raught took the anticipated action since secretary-treasurer Julie Graham-Olson is facing four felonies. She is accused of receiving between $50,000 and $100,000 in township money for personal use. She is free on bail pending a preliminary hearing.

Hamilton Township supervisors appoint Johnson tax collector

HAMILTON TWP. – The Hamilton Township supervisors appointed Ludlow resident Rodney Johnson as tax collector for the township during Monday’s regular monthly meeting, replacing the recently resigned Claire Ann Depto. Depto, who held the position for 13 years, was re-elected to the position during November’s election, but resigned the post when she also was elected as a director of the Kane School Board.

Football team honored

The 2013 Kane Wolves football team was honored at the Kane Quarterback Club's end of the season banquet on Sunday. Each member of the undefeated Wolves received a jacket with their number embroidered on the sleeve from the club. The 10 players selected to the AML All-Star team, pictured here, were presented with a football marked with their name, number and accomplishments on it. Wolves wrestlers open season with Hickory crown

The Kane Wolves wrestling team opened their season on Friday afternoon in Hermitage, and when the weekend was over, they came away as champions of the Hickory Tournament for the second straight year. Coach Mike Swartwood’s Wolves finished with 178.5 points, narrowly outdistancing D9 rival Smethport, who had 164.5 points. Rounding out the top five of the 18 team field were Jamestown, Ridgway and Maplewood.

Lady Crusaders improve to 2-0 with 55-45 win over Kane

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader basketball team used a 13-2 advantage in the third quarter to defeat the Kane Lady Wolves by a 55-45 score Monday night at the ECCHS gym.
The score was tied at 24 at the half. The third period saw Elk outscore Kane 13-2 to open a 37-26 lead with eight minutes remaining. In the final quarter the Lady Wolves outscored the Lady Crusaders 19-18 but just were not able to overcome the third quarter difference.

W. Pa. doctor to stand trial in drugs-for-sex case

CLARION (AP) — A western Pennsylvania doctor has been ordered to stand trial on charges he overprescribed anti-addiction and anti-anxiety drugs and traded them for sex with female patients before his offices were raided and closed last year.

St. Marys man injured in accidental shooting

HAMLIN TWP. – A St. Marys man accidentally injured him self on Saturday when a weapon he believed to be unloaded accidentally discharged and struck him in the hip.

School board OKs limit on possible tax increase

As it has done for several years, the Kane School Board has placed a cap on a possible property tax increase in the 2014-15 school budget.
The board voted 9-0 Thursday to limit an increase to no more than 3.2 percent.

School business manager Perry to retire in 2015

Steve Perry, who has served as business manager for the Kane Area School District for 22 years, has announced that he plans to retire March 10, 2015.
Under his agreement with the school district, he is obligated to give a 15-month notification “prior to departing.”
