David C. Bliss, Jr., 64, of 287 Spring St. in East Kane, died Thursday morning at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born Aug. 6, 1947 in Kane, he was the son of David and Thelma J. Neely Bliss. On Aug. 5, 1970 in Seoul, South Korea, he married Okye Young Kim, who died in 1992. Preceded in death by his stepfather, James L. Clark.
Mr. Bliss was a Sergeant 1st Class in the Army during the Vietnam War, giving 23 years of service.
He was a member of the VFW #1132 in Kane.

He'd rather not have all of the attention, but Senior Trial Court Judge John M. Cleland of Kane is in the national limelight today.
He's the presiding judge for the upcoming sexual abuse trial of Jerry Sandusky, a former long-time Penn State assistant football coach.
Jury selection is scheduled to begin June 5 in the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.
Barring any âbombshellâ developments, Cleland will return home three days later to deliver the commencement address Friday, June 8 at the Kane High School auditorium.
RIDGWAY - Members of the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission [NCPRPDC] are keeping a sharp eye on federal and state spending plans as lawmakers continue to make budget adjustments.
"Not much has changed when we're looking at the federal budget updates," said Eric Bridges, the commission's executive director. "We're pretty much where we were a week ago when conversations started. Appropriation bills on the federal side are moving through each respective chamber."

CLEVELAND â On May 12, the Hotshots Jump Rope Team competed at the AAU Jump Rope Lake Erie Regional Qualifier in Cleveland, Ohio.
There were eight teams including teams from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Canada. The jumpers competed to qualify for the National Championships in Houston, Texas later this summer.
Unplugging the same clogged sewer line has become a twice-a-week routine for the Kane borough Streets Department.
Now the Kane Borough Sewer Authority is considering the replacement of a section of this line that serves the Kane Community Hospital and other customers.
Mike Beane, foreman of the Streets Department, gave a report Monday at the authority meeting at the borough building. He said between 180 feet and 200 feet of the line on Park Avenue Extension needs to be replaced. He said at least 40 feet of the eight-inch tile pipe is âpacked with rootsâ from nearby trees.

Douglas Eugene Dilley, 32, of Adamsville, Ala., formerly of Kane, passed away Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Baptist Medical Center.
He was born July 30, 1979, and was an electrician, employed by M&A Electric.
Visitation was held Sunday at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home in Dora, Ala.
BROOKVILLE â The girls track team traditionally has a quality showing and finishes in the top five teams at districts each year, and this year placing third was fantastic for us considering that we only had two seniors participating at the meet. Brookville is unbeatable as a team and Elk County Catholic is always one of the class teams of our area so I was extremely pleased with our team score. The meet for us was marked by big personal best performances and that is exactly how it should be with proper training and motivated, dedicated and talented athletes.
BROOKVILLE â On a beautiful evening for track and field at Brookville, the Kane Boys Track team put it all together and came up with a hard fought, well deserved team title, scoring 55 team points.Â
The lead in this meet must have changed hands a dozen times as Elk County Catholic, Port Allegany, Clarion, Cranberry, Sheffield and North Clarion, and Kane kept putting points on the board as event after event was contested. Towards the end of the meet the 3200-meter run, the 200 dash, the pole vault and the 1600 relay results were still coming in.
May 18th
Deb Wensel literally followed in her husbandâs footsteps when she began her Kane teaching career in 1984.
Craig Wenselâs shift to the high school that year left an opening for a math teacher at the middle school. His wife, Deb gave up her post-college role as a âstay-at-home momâ to fill the vacancy.
âI inherited his job,â Wensel joked as she reflected on a 28-year teaching career that will end in the three weeks with her retirement.
May 17th
HAZEL HURST â The annual âspring cleanupâ in Hamlin Township is scheduled next Monday through Friday, May 21-25.
Township residents with items to be hauled away by the township crew should contact the township office in Hazel Hurst at 778-5855.
Julie Graham, secretary-treasurer for the township, will answer questions about the âspring cleanupâ and will provide a list of items banned from the collection. Some of these banned items include brush, paint, batteries and glass.
