Anderson Pa. Eagle Scout of the Year

WEEDVILLE – Scouting continues to change the life of 17-year-old Devin Anderson of Weedville as he was recently named Pennsylvania American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year.
Devin, son of Joe and Karen Anderson of Weedville, will now advance to the national level where he competes amongst 56 applicants to earn the national Eagle Scout of the Year award.
“I’m blown away by it, really, and I know anything can happen,” said Devin, a junior at St. Marys Area High School. “I’m definitely thankful and grateful for this.”

Kane School Board may use grant to buy iPads

The Kane School Board is considering the use of a grant to buy about 30 iPads for students.
The proposal is one of numerous topics discussed Wednesday at a two-hour board workshop at the administration building conference room.
Robert Gaetano, superintendent of the Kane School District, said "some schools" have an iPad for every student to use. He believes the iPad technology should be "gradually" introduced to students in Kane.

Several criminal cases are filed in Kane District Court

Several criminal cases have been filed in Kane District Court.
Information on the following cases is from official documents and court sources.

*Jill Marie Cleer, 55, of 484 West Wind Rd., Wetmore Township, is charged with driving under the influence (DUI) of drugs, fleeing police and leaving the scene of an accident.
Kane District Court Judge Dave Engman arraigned the defendant and set bail at $10,000 cash. Cleer was placed in the McKean County Jail in lieu of bail, but has since been released.

Jury: Martin guilty of first-degree murder

RIDGWAY – After approximately four hours of deliberation Monday afternoon, a jury found Nicholas "Nick" Martin, 24, of Johnsonburg, guilty of felony first-degree criminal homicide and the misdemeanor offense of abuse of a corpse in the 2013 death of 18-year-old Alyssa Forsyth.
This concludes a four-day trial in which Martin was charged with stabbing his then-girlfriend 112 times and dumping her body at Sandy Beach Recreational Park in Ridgway Township.
Families of both the victim and the defendant were tearful as the verdict was read.

Competition cheerleaders end season at national event

The Kane Varsity Competition Cheerleaders recently ended their season by attending Cheer LTD Nationals in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on March 20-22.
The team finished second runner-up in the Small Varsity Division and also finished sixth runner-up in the Small Varsity Non-Tumble Division.

Kane softball looks to return to winning ways

Coming off a winless season for the first time in the program’s 10-year history, the Kane Lady Wolves are looking to get back on track, working to improve their pitching, fielding percentage, and performance in the batter’s box.
Judy Kessler returns as head coach for her 10th season with Gary Johnson and Pat Tigani as assistant coaches.
Two seniors lead the squad this year, including centerfielder Daria Huckabone, a four-year starter who will captain the outfield.

Girls track team looking for big season

This years girls track team is made up of 29 athletes and while the team has talented girls at each of the 18 events, they are still lacking depth at the mile and two-mile distance runs this season.

Boys track team seeking 4th straight district crown

The Kane boys high school track team will be trying for their fourth consecutive District 9 track title.
"Winning a single district title is a difficult task, to win four in a row will be a daunting task, but it is our goal," said Kane head boys track coach Tom Cecchetti. "We lost some very valuable athletes due to graduation, most notably Chris Hunt, Nathan Moore, and Bailey Colson."
