'God in the Garden' is program for Church Women

"God is in the Garden" is the theme for the program held Friday by the Church Women United in Kane.
A total of 44 representatives from eight local churches participated in the event at the St. Callistus Catholic Church on Chase Street.

One dead in Brandy Camp Road crash

FOX TWP. – One person died Friday afternoon in a fatal crash on Brandy Camp Road in the 600 block near Rebco, Inc.
Kathryn J. Moriarity, 31, of Ridgway, was killed when a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am driven by 59-year-old Olen L. Pritt, also of Ridgway, flipped as he attempted to negotiate a right curve in the roadway, according to reports released Friday night.

Judith Ann Raymondo, 75, was born June 13, 1938 and died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014. 
I am Judy’s husband, Frank, and I would like to tell you about the wonderful woman I was married to for over 50 years. We were a military family and were fortunate to have only been apart from each other one time while I served in Vietnam. That was a difficult time for Judy as she took care of our young son alone; she handled this challenge, as she would handle everything else in her life, with a smile and quiet determination.

Extended Kane school day repealed for 2014-15

The controversial extension to the Kane school day has been repealed.
The Kane School Board voted 6-2 Thursday to revert back to the 2012-13 schedule beginning in the next school year.

School committee to discuss bullying problem

The Kane School Board's Outreach Committee plans to meet next week to discuss the bullying problem in Kane schools.
The meeting, open to the public, is tentatively set for Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Kane Middle School. The exact site in the school was not announced Thursday.

Highland OKs legal fight against injection well

JAMES CITY – The Highland Township Board of Supervisors is gearing up for a possible court battle to block a proposed injection well for the disposal of drilling waste fluids.
Acting at a meeting Wednesday, Supervisors Jim Wolfe, Paul Burton Sr. and Joe Milstead approved an agreement for representation by the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF) of Mercersburg.

Kuhn is appointed as new Highland roadmaster

JAMES CITY – Kim Kuhn of Massachusetts Avenue, James City, is the new roadmaster for Highland Township.
He will replace Charlie Vaughn of James City, who is retiring March 31.

Sue A. Long, 76, of 601 Smithfield Avenue, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Kane Community Hospital.
Born March 11, 1938, at  DeYoung, she was a daughter of Floyd and Verlie Adams Slocum. On Aug. 7, 1959, in Kane, she married Robert Long who preceded her in death.
Sue, a member of the United Methodist Church, had been a manager of the former Widman's Drug Store and later worked at the Market Basket in Kane. She also enjoyed spending time watching her grandsons.
