The state may be finally ready to reimburse the Kane Area School District for local funds used to help finance a 2008 school construction project.
The school district dipped into its reserves to come up with $7,759,741 as a local share for the $22.3-million project. The project included the construction a new elementary school and the renovation of the Kane Middle School.
Coach Dave Fitchâ€™s Sheffield Wolverines will make the short trip down Route 6 to Kane to take on the 2-0 Wolves tonight at Paul R Miller stadium. The Wolverines come into the game 0-2, having lost 48-0 to a tough Ridgway team in week one of the season and losing 68-0 to the state ranked Clarion Bobcats last Friday night.
The Kane boysâ€™ soccer team hung with the West Forest Fires on Thursday afternoon for 50 minutes but the Tionesta-based teamâ€™s depth wore the undermanned Wolves down and the visitors went on to post a 5-1 victory.
After opening their season with a win over Smethport and dropping a hard-fought 8-5 loss to Ridgway, the Wolves allowed an early goal as the Fire burned the Kane defense in the opening seconds on their first possession of the game.
The Kane boysâ€™ cross country team competed and placed 11th out of the 16 A and AA teams at the Red, White and Blue Invitational at Pittsburghâ€™s Schenley Park.
With a field of over 750 runners, Hunter Yasurek led the way for the Wolves placing 234th overall and running a time of 19:35. Next to finish was Chris Udovich, who competed for the first time on Saturday. Udovich completed the course in 20:13. Finishing next for the wolves was Andy Swartwood, who closed out his day in 20:43.

RUSSELL CITY â€“ Multiple injuries have been reported in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon at the east intersection of Routes 66 and 948 in Highland Township just east of Russell City.
Ridgway-based State Police investigated the accident, but had not filed a press release as of 10 p.m. Wednesday.
The Highland Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene at 1:40 p.m. with its rescue truck and eight firefighters. Highland Fire Police also responded, Fire Chief Bill Edinger said.
JAMES CITY â€“ The Highland Township Board of Supervisors agreed Wednesday to use a portion of the township's Act 13 money to make a loan payment for the James City sewer system.
"It's perfectly legal," Supervisor Jim Wolfe said in commenting on the loan payment. He joined with Supervisors Paul Burton Sr. and Joe Milstead in approving the payment of $13,661, which is due today.
The financially-strapped Highland Township Municipal Authority oversees the water and sewer systems in James City.

Tori Schleicher scored on the game's only breakaway Wednesday to give Kane a 1-0 win over Smethport in sudden death overtime. It was Kane's home opener.
Taking a feed from freshman Alyssa Lima-Lopez, Schleicher dribbled in all alone for about 25 yards before blasting a kick into the top right corner of the net for the lone goal. Smethport goalie Baylee Brien was helpless as the winning kick sailed over her head and her outstretched arms.

SMETHPORT â€“ The McKean County Planning Commission is ready to score applications for the Act 13 gas well impact fees.
Ken Baldwin, county planner, said the board should begin the review process at its meeting set for Tuesday, Oct. 14 at the county 911 center near Smethport. The 5:30 p.m. meeting is open to the public.
Baldwin discussed the application process Tuesday at a commission meeting at the 911 center.
