Kane professor is in Pitt-Bradford production

BRADFORD – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s Division of Communication and the Arts will present Anton Chekhov’s “The Seagull” this weekend.
Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Friday, and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday in the Studio Theater in Blaisdell Hall.

Lingenfelter named District 9's third leading tackler

Kane's Jamie Lingenfelter, shown here making a tackle in the Wolves' final game of the season, finished his season as District 9's third leading tackler, according to D9sports.com. Lingenfelter, a junior for the Wolves, finished the season with 126 stops in 11 games.

County assessor also to head Tax Claims Bureau

SMETHPORT – Angela Tennies has been the chief assessor for McKean County since 1999.
Now she’s also going to head the county’s Tax Claims Bureau, which collects delinquent property taxes for the county, schools and municipalities.

Corbett, First Lady commemorate 150th anniversary of Gettysburg Address

GETTYSBURG – Governor Tom Corbett and First Lady Susan Corbett were in Gettysburg Tuesday to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address, originally presented by Abraham Lincoln on Nov. 19, 1863.
The Corbetts were joined by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia where they laid a wreath at Soldiers’ National Ceremony and the governor spoke as part of the official Dedication Day observance. Dedication Day has honored the Gettysburg Address each year since 1938, with attendance this year for the 150th anniversary estimated at close to 10,000 people.

Sewer rate increase is likely for Kane customers

The Kane Borough Sewer Authority is considering an increase in the monthly sewer rate for its 2,078 customers in the borough and sections of Wetmore Township.
The amount of the rate increase still is undecided.
Dave "Chip" Peterson, chairman of the five-member authority, proposed a 10 percent increase Monday at the board's meeting at the borough building.

Margaret F. Dean

Margaret F. Dean, 85, formerly of James City, died Sunday morning, Nov. 17, 2013 at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born May 2, 1928, in Highland, she was a daughter of  Samuel and Fena Bell Oyler. On April 26, 1947, in Clarion, she married John G. Dean Sr. who preceded her in death.

Joanne M. Farr

November 18, 2013

Joanne M. Farr, 100, formerly of 72 Fraley St., died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Nov. 20, 1912, in Kane, she was a daughter of  the late Leo and Antoinette Emer Tornatela. On July 26, 1947, in Kane,  she married James Edward Farr who died in 2000.
For many years, Mrs. Farr and Peggy Shinafelt owned the Garden and Gift Shop on Fraley Street. She was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church.
Surviving are a sister, Ellen Bifano of Kane, and several nieces and nephews.

Wolves season comes to an end against Gremlins

CLARION – The 2013 Kane Wolves’ season came to an abrupt halt on Friday night at Clarion University. For the second straight season, the Karns City Gremlins defeated the Wolves in the District 9 AA Championship game, this time by a 49-21 score.
The Wolves had not lost a game since last Nov. 16 when the Gremlins scored in the final seconds of last year’s title contest to take the crown. Kane had reeled off 11 straight wins to begin the season, becoming only the third undefeated team in Wolves’ history.
