RIDGWAY – The Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous, and the chainsaw carving art form itself has evolved over the years.
Many of the carvers convening in downtown Ridgway were once humble beginners, creating mushrooms and bears from random logs. The mantra of late, however, seems to be "Go big or go home," as carvers continuously try to get better and better, and take on projects of seemingly epic proportions.
A prime example is Scott Dow, owner of Animalistic Chainsaw Carving Studio along U.S. Route 6 in Corry.

Ken Baldwin is named as new county planner

SMETHPORT – Kenneth D. Baldwin of Bradford is the new McKean County planner.
Baldwin, 37, replaces Deborah Lunden, who has served as the county planner for over 26 years.

County prepares for upgrades at courthouse

SMETHPORT – Upgrades are planned in heating and air conditioning in sections of the McKean County Courthouse in Smethport.

Ambulance meeting is canceled in Kane

A public meeting scheduled Thursday on the status of the Kane-based ambulance service has been canceled.
The meeting had been planned at the Kane Area Community Center.

County commissioners reject tax refund plea

SMETHPORT – A Keating Township man has lost his bid for a property tax refund from McKean County.
The county Board of Commissioners voted 3-0 Tuesday to deny the refund request filed by Matthew J. Foster of 2232 Moody Hollow in Keating Township.
Commissioners Joe DeMott, Al Pingie and Cliff Lane all voted against the request.

Derek M. Wilson, 29, of Fort Collins, Colo., formerly of Kane, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, Feb. 25, 2014 at his home.
Arrangements, in the care of the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc., are incomplete and will be announced.

Doris M. Srock

February 25, 2014

Doris M. Srock, 90, formerly of Yarnall Street, then Central Towers, Kane, died early Tuesday morning, Feb. 25, 2014 at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where she resided the past few months.
Born April 22, 1923 in Houtzdale, she was the daughter of Gordon and Mary Mays Haines. On Sept. 21, 1943 in Houtzdale, she married Richard C. Srock, who died in 1997.
Mrs. Srock had worked in retail, mostly for the former Broadbent-Stiteler in Kane, for many years.

Judith Ann Raymondo

Judith Ann Raymondo, 75, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 in Alamogordo, N.M.
She was born June 13, 1938 in Bradford.
Services will be held at a later date.
The Raymondo family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation has taken place at PCS.

Wrestlers qualify for tournament

These seven Kane wrestlers qualified for the northwest regional tournament, which will take place at Sharon High School this Friday and Saturday. From left to right are, front row, Austin Hulings, Keaton Rounsville, Evan DeLong; back row, Cody Blankenship, Jon Gelsick, Darren Brown and Austin Woolcock. The top three finishers at each weight class in Sharon advance to the PIAA Championships in Hershey.
