New state legislator for Kane area

State Rep. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) hosted an "open house" Thursday in Kane to introduce himself to Kane area residents. As of Dec. 1, his state legislative district includes all of McKean County. The group includes, left to right: John and Louise Schmidt of Kane, Causer and Jill Thompson, manager of Causer's office at 55 Fraley St., Kane. State Rep. Kathy Rapp (R-Warren) previously represented the Kane area.

Santa and Mrs. Claus

Santa and Mrs Claus made a pre-Christmas stop at the Kane Community Center on Saturday following the annual Santa Parade. Coulter, 19 months, keeps a wary eye on St. Nick as sisters Kalin, 5, and Karys, 7, wait their turn to tell Santa what they would like for Christmas. The three made the trip from Indiana with their mother, Katie Stewart, to visit their grandparents and sit on Santa's lap.

Lions decorate for Christmas

Members of the Kane Lions club are shown hanging Christmas wreaths early Sunday morning, Nov. 22 on the street light poles on Fraley Street. Shown is  Russ Counts with his crew making final adjustments to a wreath in front of the Lilly of the Valley. This year the Lions added new rope lights to the Fraley Street poles as well as five new decorations on Field Street.

New rescue truck on display

Tim Holt (right), chief of the Kane Volunteer Fire Department, gives a presentation on the department’s new rescue truck at a recent meeting of the Kane Rotary Club. The cost of the new rescue truck is about $450,000—not counting special equipment added to the rig.

Members of Kane's Cross Country teams held their annual Costumed Run yesterday. The Wolves' runners took to the streets of Kane in full costume for their workout. Members of the team will compete in Saturday's District 9 Championship meet which will take place in Ridgway.

Money raised for breast cancer research

Members of the Kane High School and Kane Middle School cheerleading squads raised money throughout last week for breast cancer research. The cheerleaders are pictured during halftime of Friday night's game with Elk County Catholic. The girls raised nearly $1,200 this year.

‘Laughing Owl Press’ ceremony

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Friday to mark the official opening of “Laughing Owl Press” at 27 Fraley St., Kane. Taking part in the ceremony are, left to right: Anne Albright, Kane office manager for State Sen. Joe Scarnati (R-Brockway); William “Yogi” Osmer, mayor of Kane; Nadine Holt, president of the Kane Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors; Andrea and Joe Lanich, owners of the printing business; and Erin Vassallo, executive director of the Kane Area Development Center, which includes the Chamber of Commerce. A grand-opening celebration will be held Sunday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
