Mt. Jewett Rotary Club welcome District Governor

Mt. Jewett Rotary Club President Larry Doyon and other Rotary Members welcomed O. Lee Dyer Jr., Rotary District Governor 7280 to a recent meeting of the Mt. Jewett Rotary Club. Dyer gave an inspirational talk about Rotary’s commitment to helping others locally and around the world. He provided the members with updates to ongoing projects along with Rotary’s future plans for helping others. The Club also discussed upcoming local projects including the McKean County Big Brothers and Big Sisters summer picnic that will be hosted by the Mt. Jewett Rotary Club at the Mt.

Honoring victims of shootings

Under a Presidential Proclamation, the American flag will fly at half-staff until sunset today at all public buildings in honor of the victims of the tragic shootings last Friday in the movie theatre in Aurora, Colo. This is the scene at the flagpole in front of the McKean County Courthouse in Smethport.

Sybil Kane Memorial Scholarship for nursing awarded

This recipient of this year's Sybil Kane Memorial Scholarship for nursing was Deborah Lorenzo. Here Deborah (right) receives the check from Pam Bray, RN, Director of Nursing and Inpatient Services at Kane Community Hospital in the Gardens at KCH. The selection is made by a Kane Area High School scholarship committee with input from KCH. Deborah is attending Gannon in the fall.

Lorenzo received the National Honor Society Senior Scholarship in Memory of Phil Imbrogno. She also received the Diane J. Hulings Memorial Scholarship.

The Kane Lions Club presented six $500 scholarships at the Kane High School commencement last month. Steve Timpano (right) presented the awards for the Lions Club. Tyler Laurie (left) and Ariel Brinkley (right) are the recipients of the Beta Sigma Phi Scholarships. The awards were presented at the Kane High School commencement last month. Deborah Wensel (center), who recently retired as a Kane Middle School teacher, presented the $500 scholarships. Beta Sigma Phi is an international non-academic sorority with 200,000 members.
