Ion, the soon-to-be junior vice commander at the Kane Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), presented the flag on Memorial Day to Sue and Tom VanGiesen (center), parents of the fallen soldier. Leo "Bert" Geibel (left), the VFW adjutant, helps holds the flag. Ion said it took her seven months to knit the flag as a tribute to VanGiesen.

May 25, 2012

Kane Area students recently participated in a very successful service-learning project to raise money for a wolf conservation center.
One Kane fourth-grader who was curious about our local school mascot did some reading and found out that the wolf is still an endangered species. She and some friends decided they would like to raise money to help save our mascot from becoming extinct.
