Boys Scouts collect flags

On Oct. 18, Boy Scouts from Troops 422 and 427 collected flags from the cemeteries in Kane. The flags were retired on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the VFW.

These costumed kindergarten students are just some of the area children who will be coming to your house this evening during Halloween “Trick or Treat” time. Kane, Wetmore Township, Hamlin Township and Highland Township all have “Trick or Treat” between 6 and 8. Following a 5 p.m. parade and costume judging at the fire hall, “Trick or Treat” will be held between 6 and 7:30 in Mt. Jewett. “Trick or Treat” in Hamilton Township will be observed between 5 and 6:30 with costume judging at 7 p.m. at the Ludlow Fire Hall.

‘Stomp Out Bullying’ posters

First RIF Day at school

These first-grade students at the Kane Elementary School enjoy the books they received Friday at the first Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) Day for the new school year. The students include, left to right, front row: Dakota Smith, Kylee Asel and Reilyn Swanson; back row: Andie Schultz, Brandon Ferraro and Jayna Johnson. Under the RIF program, students in kindergarten through fifth grade receive a free book to keep three times during the school year. The next RIF Day is set for Dec. 9.

Leaves are falling

Isaak Johnson, a first grader, at Kane Elementary brought this giant leaf to school. With the changing of the temperatures, all the leaves will be soon falling.

St. Matthews Preschool at the fire hall

St. Matthews Preschool came to the fire hall on Wednesday morning for fire prevention. The children and their teachers got to see tools that are used to fight different types of fires and one of the firefighters demonstrated how to stop-drop-and roll after which kids were asked to try it. They were shown how the thermal imaging camera works. Some of the kids were given a chance to see their handprints on a board, the teacher Miss Beth also got to try it.

The Kane Elks Lodge sponsors the honor program.

Fire Prevention Assembly

Firemen gave a Fire Prevention Assembly to the kindergarten students at Kane Area Elementary School. The firemen also presented each student with a gift bag containing a smoke detector, coloring book, crayons and stickers. The students had fun getting to look at and walk through the fire truck.

Accelerated Readers

The Kane Middle School Accelerated Reader contest winners for the month of September are Ashley Jordan, seventh grade (left); Brianna Snyder, eighth grade (center); and Levi Fry, sixth grade (right). These students earned enough points to be entered into the Accelerated Reader monthly drawing along with 33 other middle school students. The contest winners receive a prize basket after randomly being drawn from a pool which includes all participants that earned enough points.
