Firemen gave a Fire Prevention Assembly to the kindergarten students at Kane Area Elementary School. The firemen also presented each student with a gift bag containing a smoke detector, coloring book, crayons and stickers. The students had fun getting to look at and walk through the fire truck.
The Kane Middle School Accelerated Reader contest winners for the month of September are Ashley Jordan, seventh grade (left); Brianna Snyder, eighth grade (center); and Levi Fry, sixth grade (right). These students earned enough points to be entered into the Accelerated Reader monthly drawing along with 33 other middle school students. The contest winners receive a prize basket after randomly being drawn from a pool which includes all participants that earned enough points.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Friday afternoon at the new site of Allie D's Salon at 305 N.Â Fraley St. in Kane in the former Kane Feed & Seed. Taking part in the ceremony are left to right: Sue Holt, a member of the Kane Chamber of Commerce board; Nadine Holt, a member of the Kane Chamber of Commerce board; Melanie Clabaugh, executive director of the Kane Area Development Center, which includes the Chamber; Allie DeSio, owner of the salon; Alex Fadenholz, Contractor; Jeff Andrulonis, president of the Chamber of Commerce board; Jill Thompson, who heads the Kane office of State Rep.
The annual Fall Festival will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wildcat Park off Route 6 near Ludlow. The festival features handmade crafts, specialty foods, a bake sale and many other activities. There also are hay wagon rides and pony rides for children. Admission is free.
The varsity athletes and the members of the band voted. Girls voted for king and boys for queen. Chanda Paup was crowned on the track by Andrea Saquin (last year's winner) and Mike Swartwood was crowned at the dance. Chanda plays soccer and Mike plays football.
