A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Friday afternoon at the new site of Allie D's Salon at 305 N. Fraley St. in Kane in the former Kane Feed & Seed. Taking part in the ceremony are left to right: Sue Holt, a member of the Kane Chamber of Commerce board; Nadine Holt, a member of the Kane Chamber of Commerce board; Melanie Clabaugh, executive director of the Kane Area Development Center, which includes the Chamber; Allie DeSio, owner of the salon; Alex Fadenholz, Contractor; Jeff Andrulonis, president of the Chamber of Commerce board; Jill Thompson, who heads the Kane office of State Rep.

Wildcat Park Fall Festival

The annual Fall Festival will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wildcat Park off Route 6 near Ludlow. The festival features handmade crafts, specialty foods, a bake sale and many other activities. There also are hay wagon rides and pony rides for children. Admission is free.

The varsity athletes and the members of the band voted. Girls voted for king and boys for queen. Chanda Paup was crowned on the track by Andrea Saquin (last year's winner) and Mike Swartwood was crowned at the dance. Chanda plays soccer and Mike plays football. They are shown here enjoying a dance together.

Traffic control at work zone

A flagman stops traffic at a road work zone on Fraley Street in Kane. One lane of travel is maintained through the work area on Fraley and Greeves streets. Motorists should be prepared for delays in traveling in the work zone. Work is under way from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Laurie Storrar (left) of Wilcox signs up for her annual mammogram during the Ladies Night Out program held Thursday at Kane Community Hospital, an affiliate of UPMC Hamot. Brittany McElhattan (right), an ultra-sound technician at the hospital, registers Storrar for the key test in the fight against breast cancer. Storrar, an elected supervisor for Jones Township, is one of 75 women to sign up Thursday for a life-saving mammogram. Kane area women are urged to contact the hospital to schedule their mammogram.

Colonial Inn re-opening ceremony

Andrew Nicklas, 7-year-old son of Keith and Kelly Nicklas of School Street, Wetmore Township, volunteers to operate his father's backhoe to dig a hole at the East Kane Park near his home. The hole is for the base for a school bus "spring-jumper" at the park. Federal community-development funds were used to purchase the park equipment. Volunteers donated their time to install the playground equipment.

Lions International District 14F Governor Jim Day addresses the Kane Lions Club during the club's Sept. 6 meeting. Jim Day, a retired elementary school teacher from Waterford, traveled to Kane to deliver the message of 2011 Lion's International President Wing-Kun Tam. Tam's theme for the year for all Lions is "Believe." Jim challenged the Kane members to Believe in Service, Believe in Club Members, Believe in Training Officers, Believe in Projecting our Image, and Believe in Giving Back.

Materials for roofing project

Materials for the roofing project at Kane High School are stacked outside the building. The Kane School Board in June approved the roof replacement project. Most of the original roof was last replaced in 1987. Money from the capital reserve fund will cover the cost of the project.
