Kendra Farnsworth, who will be entering the fifth grade at the Kane Elementary School, holds 14 inches of her hair that was cut for the "Locks of Love" program. Kendra, 10, is the daughter of Robert Farnsworth and Stephanie Korchak of 318 1/2 Poplar St., Kane. "Locks of Love" is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children who suffer from long-term hair loss due to a medical condition.
These three 2011 Kane High School graduates are among many to receive scholarships at commencement last month. The group and the scholarships not previously announced includes, left to right: Christine Mosier-- the Harold Carter Scholarship Phoenix Chapter 15 Order of Eastern Star and the Sybil Kane Nursing Award; Melia Brocious-- the Philip Imbrogno Scholarship and one of two VFW Post 1132 Ladies Auxiliary Scholarships; and Dominic Sirianni-- the Kane Area Education Association and the Parent Teachers Organization Scholarship, the Kane Players Scholarship and the David A.
The Pennsylvania American Water Company is installing new water lines in Kane. This work is for a new water line on West Hemlock Avenue. Mealy Construction of Tionesta is the contractor for the project on the north side of the street. A new water line also is being installed on South Fraley Street between Spruce Street and Pine Avenue. Large trees in the utility right-of-way on the east side of South Fraley Street already have been removed in preparation for the installation of the new water line.
The Howard M., Daisy W. and Gail L. Cleveland Scholarships were presented at the Kane High School commencement ceremony last month. Receiving one-year Cleveland scholarships are, left to right: Devon Dellen, Stephanie Salerno, Kathryn Bizzak and William Keesler. The recipients are 2011 graduates of Kane High School.

The $2,000 Joe Stanko Memorial Scholarship was presented earlier this month at the commencement ceremony for the Class of 2011 at Kane Area High School. Taking part in the presentation are, left to right: Kara and Krysta Stanko, daughters of Joe Stanko; Evan Depto, the recipient of the memorial scholarship; and Diane Stanko, sister of Joe Stanko.
