Veterans pinning ceremony at The Lutheran Home at Kane

A Veterans pinning ceremony was held by Community Nurses Hospice Program and The Lutheran Home at Kane. Community Nurses Inc., is an active partner in the “We Honor Veterans Program,” which is a national awareness campaign developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Chapman retires

Ann Chapman, LPN, retired June 16, 2011, after 27 years of service. She will be missed by the residents and staff at The Lutheran Home of Kane. Upon retirement she will be enjoying traveling in her motor home, spending time with her grandchildren, boating and living the "slow down life."
“I have always enjoyed my work, the residents, families and co-workers. I’ve really enjoyed working here," Ann said.

Patti Petruney Memorial Scholarship

Crystal Kocjancic (left) congratulates Andrea Saquin (right) as the recipient of the Patti Petruney Memorial Scholarship. Kocjancic, a friend of Petruney, presented the scholarship at the Kane High School commencement held earlier this month. Petruney, a 1997 graduate of Kane High, died in a freak accident 10 years ago.

KCH presents Sybil Kane Memorial Scholarship

Christina "Tina" Mosier (center), a 2011 Kane Area High School Graduate, was awarded the Sybil Kane Memorial Nursing Scholarship at graduation.  Here she receives the scholarship money from Kane Community Hospital's Director of Inpatient Services Pam Bray, RN, DON (left) and the KCH Director of Operations Mark Papalia (right). Tina is the daughter of Robert and Paula Mosier of Kane. She will be studying nursing at Edinboro University beginning this fall. KCH is the steward of the Sybil Kane Scholarship.  It is presented to a graduating senior who is pursuing a career in nursing.

St. Callistus Catholic Church in Kane has recognized its members who graduated last week from Kane Area High School. Kane Middle School SPCA donation

Kane Middle School students presented a check to Pete Seeley, SPCA shelter employee. The KMS Student Council recently sponsored "Stall Day" at the school. Students brought in their loose change donations, and classes were stalled until all the money was counted and wrapped. $1,300 was collected and donated to the McKean County SPCA to help with the care of homeless animals sheltered there. Kane Middle School students visit the SPCA regularly with their advisor Deb Wensel to walk dogs and pet and socialize cats.

Steve Jerman Memorial Award

Trishia Hollingshead (left) and Kelley Chilson (right), 2011 graduates of Kane Area High School, are the recipients of the Steve Jerman Memorial Scholarship. Each graduate received a $1,000 scholarship, which is named for the Kane borough police officer who was killed in the line of duty in 1999.

Locks of Love

Emily Bernhard, 10-year-old daughter of Laurie Carlson and Randy Bernhard of Kane, shows off a 9-inch section of her hair that she is donating the the "Locks of Love" program. Emily just completed fourth grade at the Kane Elementary School. The Headquarters Salon of Kane cut her hair for "Locks of Love," a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children who suffer from long-term hair loss due to a medical condition.
