Marian Severance of Lamont Road, Jones Township, hugs her son, Aaron, a Kane High senior who has been nominated for a $500 scholarship offered by the Elk County Association of Township Officials. The Highland Township Board of Supervisors last week endorsed Severance for the college scholarship. Severance, who will graduate June 10, plans to attend Penn State at Wilkes-Barre. Severance is one of several nominees for the scholarship and the only one from Kane Area High School. There are no nominees from Highland Township this year.

Celebrating National Train Day

Children of all ages visited Friends' Memorial Public Library to celebrate National Train Day on Saturday, May 7. They were treated to films of local rail lines, a special "All Aboard" Storytime, and a model train display by former Kane resident Tom Cappello.

Middle School Orchestra

The Kane Middle School Orchestra performed Tuesday at the annual Spring Concert at the school auditorium. Among those taking part in the concert are, left to right: Angela Cecchetti, sixth grade, violin; Joey Marold, eighth grade, cello; Henry Sobieski, orchestra director; Simrin Suddle, eighth grade, cello; and Nellie Troutman, eighth grade, viola. There were performances by the sixth grade orchestra and the seventh-eighth grade orchestra.

The Kane Middle School Band performed Tuesday at the annual Spring Concert at the school auditorium. Kane High Prom Royalty

The Kane Area High School Senior-Junior Prom held Saturday night at the school featured the crowning of the prom queen and king. The queen is Kelley Chilson, daughter of Rhonda and Timothy Chilson of Mt. Jewett. The king is Craig Perry, son of Joanne and Steve Perry of Kane. Both students are seniors. "Wonderland" was the theme for the prom. More than 125 attended the prom in the decorated high school gym.
