Barb Gadley-Cheeks of the Kane Eagles #307 presents a $525 check to Kane Republican Business Manager Cindy Hulings for the newspaper's Toys for Kids campaign. Each year, members of the club hold a toy drive. Along with the check, the club also donated two large boxes of toys. Monetary donations and new unwrapped toys are being accepted until Dec. 14 at 4:30 p.m at The Kane Republican office.

Students-of-the-Month

These are the Students-of-the-Month for November at the Kane Elementary School. They include, left to right: fifth grade, Aaron Hottel; fourth grade, Skylar Beckford; third grade, Joshua Stewart; second grade, Shakira Yoder; first grade, Carter Himes; and kindergarten, Marie Hilyer. The honored students are holding certificates provided by the Kane Elks Lodge.

Toys for Kids donation

Kylie Boylan stopped by the Kane Republican office with her grandmother on Thursday to drop off a donation for the Toys for Kids campaign. According to Kane Republican business manager Cindy Hulings, 129 children have been signed up to receive presents this year. Donations, both toys and monetary, will be accepted until Friday, Dec. 14.

The National Honor Society at Kane High School held its Induction Ceremony on Tuesday at the Olmsted Manor in Ludlow. New members of the Honor Society include, left to right, seated: Brittany Kowatch, Kyla Hoag, Hayley Walters, Maria Newton and Lauren Myers; standing: Jandilee Smith, Haylee Mague, Isaac Robbins, Jonathan Luke Gelsick and Cheyenne Wheatley. Hoag and Walters are seniors. The other new members are juniors.

The Kane Area Middle School AR winners for November are Alyssa Zampogna (left, eighth grade), Taylor Munce (middle, 6th grade), and Ashleigh Glogau (right, seventh grade).  Students must earn enough AR points to be entered into a drawing for prize baskets.

The National Honor Society at Kane Area High School held its annual Induction Ceremony on Tuesday evening at Olmsted Manor. The officers of the Honor Society include, left to right, seated: Melanie Geer, treasurer; Dawn Saquin, historian; and Christina Moore, vice president; standing: Makayla Anderson, secretary; Mary Filjones, teacher for the “gifted” program and adviser for the Honor Society; and Alison Packard, president. All students are seniors and are second-year members of the Honor Society.

Mt. Jewett Rotary Club presents program

November 30, 2012

At the Nov. 28 meeting of the Mt. Jewett Rotary Club Mike Barnard and Kristin Dillenbeck presented a program on the McKean County Community Service 3G Program. 3G stands for Good, Growing, Gardens. The motto of the program is “Helping others By Helping Ourselves.” The program provides a meaningful alternative to incarceration. Defendants who are placed in the program must complete a specified number of community service hours in order to fulfill the requirements of their probation. Participants in the program work at a number of locations throughout McKean County.

Donation to 'Toys for Kids'

Dan Jordan, the Worshipful Master of Kane Masonic Lodge 566, presents a check to Kane Republican Business Manager Cindy Hulings for the newspaper's Toys for Kids campaign. Anyone wishing to donate new, unwrapped toys or monetary donations may drop them off at the Kane Republican office on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The deadline for donations is Dec. 14. One hundred twenty-five children from birth through fifth grade from the Kane area are signed up to receive toys.
