Kane Girl Scout Troop #23093 collected several boxes full of canned food items for The Kane Republican's Thanksgiving Food Drive. Troop leaders are Jennifer Asel and Stephanie Bevacqua. The food drive is Â being held through the end of the month. All donations received will be donated to The Kane Area Food Pantry.
The Ladies Auxiliary for the Ludlow Volunteer Fire Department raised money Tuesday with its annual Election Day Bake Sale at the fire hall. On Oct. 26, Mr. John MacRoy, also known as â€śThe Butterfly Man,â€ť presented his educational program at Kane Middle School. The program, which teaches students about natural history, science, geography, art, and environmental education, was done for the seventh grade Science classes taught by Ms. Jodell Barner. As part of this educational presentation, students viewed his unique slide showÂ and listened to a presentation from Mr. MacRoy. They also viewed his rare butterfly and insect collection that contains over 4,000 different species from all around the world.

Shell is paying for drainage improvements along Forest Road 133 near its site for a new Marcellus Shale natural gas well. The well site is located 7/10ths of a mile from the bridge at the end of Jo Jo Road in Wetmore Township.
St. Matthews Preschool came to the fire department on Wednesday and watched a movie (cartoon) about how Smokey the Bear came to be and they enjoyed doughnuts and milk which was provided by the department. Then Smokey paid them all a visit and they got to go through the trucks. When it came time for them to leave the kids all received water bottles, coloring calendars and various other items. Firefighters Ed Fisher, Shawn Howell, Doug Robinson and Robert (buddy) Green all took part along with two of the active members, Lynette Beatty and Vicky Robinson.
