Students of the Month

November 23, 2012

The Kane Area Middle School recognizes one male and one female student in grades 6, 7, and 8 that represent the characteristics of respect, responsibility, compassion, citizenship and honesty during each month of school. These characteristics are also the five Kane Area District Core Values. Congratulations to the following students for being selected as “Students of the Month” for November 2012: front row, Gina Marconi, seventh grade; Paige Nicklas, sixth grade; Neo Smith, sixth grade; back row, Brandi Wheatley, eighth grade; Hunter Zuzek, seventh grade; and Mike Landries, eighth grade.

Church hosts Super KWT

The Presbyterian Church of Kane hosted Super KWT (Kids Worshipping Together) on Nov. 14. Nineteen youth, 11 middle and high school helpers and 11 adults worked to make this event a success.

KAMS make "Care Packets"

November 21, 2012

KAMS student council students hold boxes of supplies for local soldiers overseas stationed in war zones. The Kane VFW coordinated with the KAMS student council to put together items for soldiers in "Care Packets" that contained toiletry items, snack, and reading materials such as books or magazines. There were seven local soldiers that these care packages will go to and the amount was large enough for the seven soldiers to receive care packages for several months.

Thanksgiving in a Box

Pictured are Kane Area Middle School National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) students who were part of the "Thanksgiving in a Box" food drive that NJHS does every year around Thanksgiving. All of the students in KAMS homerooms are asked to put together a complete family dinner for 18 needy families in our school district. These dinners include turkeys, pies, stuffing, and all the items for a full course family dinner. The dinners are than delivered by KAMS faculty members after school to the families.

A community-wide Ecumenical Celebration of Thanksgiving was held Tuesday evening at the Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church on Greeves Street in Kane. Clergy from Kane participated in the service, which was sponsored by the Kane Area Ministerial Association. The group includes, left to right: the Rev. Senior Center honors veterans

The Kane Senior Center honored veterans on Tuesday with a program and certificates. The Rev. Nancy Page of Kane accompanied and led the seniors in some rousing patriotic songs. Poems and readings were done by Mabel Johnson, Beverly Sivak and Kathy Payne. Thanksgiving Food Drive

Kane Girl Scout Troop #23093 collected several boxes full of canned food items for The Kane Republican's Thanksgiving Food Drive. Troop leaders are Jennifer Asel and Stephanie Bevacqua. The food drive is  being held through the end of the month. All donations received will be donated to The Kane Area Food Pantry.

Ludlow Election Day Bake Sale

The Ladies Auxiliary for the Ludlow Volunteer Fire Department raised money Tuesday with its annual Election Day Bake Sale at the fire hall. "The Butterfly Man" presentation

On Oct. 26, Mr. John MacRoy, also known as “The Butterfly Man,” presented his educational program at Kane Middle School. The program, which teaches students about natural history, science, geography, art, and environmental education, was done for the seventh grade Science classes taught by Ms. Jodell Barner. As part of this educational presentation, students viewed his unique slide show  and listened to a presentation from Mr. MacRoy. They also viewed his rare butterfly and insect collection that contains over 4,000 different species from all around the world.

Ready to 'ride' on Halloween

This inflatable "scary" motorcycle rider is part of a large outside Halloween display at 215 Haines St. in Kane. "Trick or treat" times in Kane will be Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Residents are encouraged to turn on their porch lights to welcome costumed children to their door.
