Throwback Thursday

This week's Throwback Thursday picture is of the Kane's Central High School. The school was located at the corner of Greeves and Edgar Streets, where the Central Towers now stands. According to the Kane Historic Preservation Society, Central was the first brick school built in the borough when it went up in 1883. It was used as a high school until it became overcrowded and a new high school was built in 1906 on Chestnut Street.

The Kane Area High School Prom King and Queen pose Saturday night at the annual event at the school gymnasium. Queen Caylinn Jordan is the daughter of Rachelle and Bob Jordan of Kane. King Griffin Greenawalt is the son of Jody and Matt Greenawalt of Kane. "Welcome To New York" was the theme for the prom.

This snow bunny in front of a residence on West Hemlock Avenue in Kane is not an April Fool's Day joke. The snow sculpture was created after five inches of snow fell Monday in the Kane area. Warm temperatures today could melt the bunny.

Rotary Club Student of the Month

March 23, 2015

The Kane Rotary Club student of the month for March is Anna Stanko. She is pictured along with her Dad, Todd Stanko. Anna has been very involved in different sports and activities during her high school years including softball and golf as well as Student Council and National Honor Society. She also performed in the high school musical, "Guys and Dolls." Anna plans to attend Penn State University. Her major at this time is undecided but she knows that she wants to study theater in some capacity while there.

Kane Area Soccer Association Summer Youth Camp

The Kane Area Soccer fields have been a busy place this week. More than 75 players, including the ones pictured, are taking part in this week's Kane Area Soccer Association Summer Youth Camp. The camp instructors are current and former Kane High soccer players and coaches. The camp concludes tonight with players receiving T-shirts and enjoying a pizza party.
