3-on-3 tourney

June 19, 2015

This week's 3-on-3 tournament featured eight teams in a double elimination format and was sponsored by Zook Motors. Pictured are the members of the winning team: Nate Burgeson, Andrew Bucheit, and Andy Bundy. The winning team and second place team received gift certificates to Roma Gardens. Tournaments run every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Evergreen Park until the last Thursday in July.

Jake Lister was one of the Kane High student athletes to receive special awards at last week's Kane All Sports Boosters Award Ceremony. The junior on the Wolves' baseball team was named the squad's Most Valuable Pitcher. Teammate Tanner Morehead received the team's award for Most Improved while teammate Andrew Peterson took home the plaque for Most Valuable Player.

Jim Sirianni, left, and Don Frase were speakers at last week's Kane All Sports Boosters Award Ceremony. Sirianni, a long-time coach of the Kane High School Track and Field team and the Wolves' Football team, was inducted into the club's Hall of Fame while Frase, the player whose tip-in at the buzzer won the 1949 KHS basketball team the state championship, was the keynote speaker. Frase thanked Sirianni for "keeping the memory of the game alive in Kane" during his remarks.

Gary Meckley Scholarship

Savannah Anderson was named the winner of the Gary Meckley Scholarship at Wednesday's Kane All Sports Boosters Award Ceremony. The Kane senior was a standout for the Lady Wolves in cross country and track and field. Anderson tied the Kane girls' all-time record for pole vault at the state meet, jumping 10'0" to place eighth, the Lady Wolves' first ever medal in the event.

Kane High's Emily Truden won a number of awards at Wednesday's Kane All Sports Boosters Award Ceremony. The senior, known as "Smiley," was awarded one of three Scholar Athlete Awards and also took home the Amy Rudolph Award and the Dick and June Hill Memorial Scholarship.

Mike Carey Memorial Award

Emily Hauser and Olivia Kumher, both seniors on the Kane girls' track and field team, were named the winners of the Mike Carey Memorial Award. Carey's cousin, Jim Sirianni, presented the award to the Lady Wolves' seniors.

Jim Hillman Memorial Award

Kane High senior Dillon Mattis was awarded the Jim Hillman Memorial Award at Wednesday evening's Kane All Sports Boosters Award Ceremony. Mattis, a kicker on the Wolves' football team, was presented the award by Jim Hillman, the son of the longtime Kane football trainer whom the award was named after. Mattis also was one of the recipients of the Scholar Athlete Award, along with Emily Truden and Tyler Blankenship.

Dick and June Hill Memorial Scholarship

Trace Gordon was named the recipient of the Dick and June Hill Memorial Scholarship at Wednesday evening's Kane All Sports Boosters Award Ceremony. The award is given to a senior on the Wolves' baseball team and a senior on the Wolves' softball team in memory of the Kane couple, who were avid supporters of the sports.

Dan Beckwith Memorial Award

Taylor Morgan, a standout on the Kane girls' basketball and volleyball teams, was named the winner of the Dan Beckwith Memorial Award at Wednesday evening's Kane All Sports Boosters Club Award Ceremony. Kane High alumni and former multi-sport standout for the Wolves, Royce Novosel Johnson presented the award on behalf of the Don Raabe Big 30 Charity Classic committee, who funds the annual scholarship to a Kane High senior. Morgan also took home the trophy for Outstanding Female Athlete.
