Kane natives get fourth place at DAV Cabela's qualifier

(formerly of Kane) took fourth place on Sunday in the DAV Cabela’s qualifier held this past weekend on Kinzua. Forty boats took to the water in the two-day event on May 19 and 20. The team brought a 5-fish limit to the scales, weighing 9.84 lbs. Saturday the team took big fish honors with a 3.14 lb. walleye. The team weighed a limit of five fish both days for a combined weight of 18.10 lbs., giving them fourth place overall in the standings.

Sydni Holt bags first turkey

Sydni Holt, 13 years old of Kane, bagged her first turkey while hunting with her dad, Tom Holt, in Wetmore Township on May 19.

Kane's relay teams win D-9 championship

The girls' time of 4:10.03 broke the 32-year-old school record set back in 1980. The boys' big race helped seal the team championship as they edged Port Allegany 55-50.

Bucheit advances championships

Winners of shot put

Kane's Taylor Detrick and Morgan Nicholson pose with the plaques they received for finishing first and second in the shot put at the District 9 Track & Field Championships held at Brookville Area High School. Detrick won the event with a throw of 37' 6 1/4" while Nicholson had a throw of 36' 10". Both advance to the Pennsylvania State Track & Field Championships.

Avery Colson earns a trip to State Championships

Kane's Avery Colson poses with the plaque he received for finishing second in the 1600-meter run at the District 9 Track & Field Championships held at Brookville Area High School. Colson ran a beautiful race as he showed his strength and heart as he out-kicked the Oswayo Valley runner at the end to earn a trip to the Pennsylvania Track & Field Championships. He completed the race with a time of 4:36.31.

Huge Rainbow Trout caught

Gennaro Aiello caught this 23-inch Rainbow Trout on May 3 on the west branch of the Clarion River. The fish weighed 4.5 lbs. and had a Straub tag.

Baylee Swanson gets first spring gobbler

Baylee Swanson, age 14, of Mt. Jewett, got her first spring gobbler while hunting with her father saturday. The bird weighed 20 lbs. and had a 9" beard and 1 1/4" spurs. Baylee is the daughter of Paul and Deb Swanson.

Eight bowlers qualify for states

The Kane Elks Youth Bowling League, under the coach of John Carlson, had six kids qualify for states which will be held in Lancaster on May 19 and 20. The top eight bowlers in both boys divisions qualified for states and the top seven girls advance. In the 11-years-and-under boys handicap, Bryce Bizzak placed third out of 64 bowlers. Alex Lindquist was fourth and Matt Boyer was sixth. In the 12-year-and-above boys handicap, Dominic Nicklas placed sixth out of 59 bowlers. For the girls age 12-and-above handicap, Erin Paulson placed second out of 42 bowlers.

Kane Area High School's Josh Kibbie waves to his family and friends prior to the kickoff of the 2012 PSFCA East/West All Star Football game held at Gateway High School in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. The east squad has the advantage for wins, having won seven of the ten all-star games. In a turnover plagued first quarter the east jumped out to an early  10-0 lead with 7:29 to go but the west was able to score and cut the lead to 10-7 after the first quarter.
