First bear

December 21, 2011

Richard Duffy, 74, shot this bear with his bow on the last day of bear archery, Nov. 18. He has been hunting bears for 25 years and this is his first bear. In the photos are his hunting partners, Richard Duffy (hunter), Dan Jordan (stepson), Earl Duffy (son), Diane Gerg Imbrogno (taking photo). All were present when Rich got the bear. It weighed 220 pounds and was shot in McKean County with his bow.

Audrey Perry takes to the offense as she gets by the Otto-Eldred defender during second half action. The Lady Wolves would go on to defeat the Lady Terrors, 55-24. Perry had a solid game as she chipped in with six points as well as great defense and solid rebounds.

Pictured from left to right are Jeff Jennings and Walter Dixon. In the truck from left to right are Taylor Hoffman and Carl Hoffman. Jennings is the one who got the bear in McKean County and it is his first bear. The group are from Troy. When talking with John Dzemyan, Pennsylvania State Game Commission, he said "this is the best year we have had in over 10 years." Everyday was a record day. The first day their were 122 checked in, second day 16, third day 69, fourth day 21, and six bears on the final day. The grand total for the 5-day bear season that were checked into the Mt.

Chris Weikert is show with his 82-pound bear he got in McKean County on Saturday, Nov. 19. A great start to the opening of bear season was shown by the 138 total bears that were checked in at the check-in station at the Mt. Jewett Fire Hall the first two days. John Dzemyan from Pennsylvania Game Commission said that 84 were taken from McKean County, 43 from Elk County and the remainder from Cameron, Potter and surrounding counties. The biggest bear brought in tipped the scales at 392 pounds. The smallest was 42 pounds.

Hulings catches steelhead

Aiden Hulings, age 10, Kane, caught this steelhead at the mouth of Crooked Creek, Lake Erie on Nov. 12. It measured 29 and 3/4 inches long. It weighed 11 pounds six ounces and had a girth of 17 inches. Aiden will receive an Angler's Citation through the Fish and Boat Commission.

Audrey Perry named to all-star team

Audrey Perry, daughter of Steve and Joanne Perry and a junior on the Kane volleyball team, was named to the D9 AA/AAA all-star team and was elected its Player of the Year for her performance in the 2011 season. Audrey has been a varsity player since her 9th grade year when she became the first freshman on the varsity squad since Liz Johnson in 2000.  She is also the third Wolves volleyball players to be named as the top AA/AAA player of the district since 2000 (Missy Wahlberg in 2000 and Amelia Kepler in 2009).
