AAU D9 Elite

May 1, 2014

The girls' AAU "D9 Elite" Travel Basketball team traveled to New York state recently and placed second in the Buffalo JamFest Tournament. The local girls won both of their games on Saturday, placing them at the top of their pool. On Sunday, they won their first game, advancing them to the championship game. The girls finished the weekend as the Runner-Ups, losing to a tough and physical team from Canada.

Aiden Hulings gets his hand raised after defeating Tavion Banks of Easton in the state semifinals on Saturday. Hulings, a seventh-grader at Kane Middle School (not eighth grade as previously reported), won the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling 11-and-12-year-old title at 125 pounds.

Members of the Kane boys' track team enjoyed a relatively warm, sunny day on Friday for their daily workout. The spring sports season gets underway on Monday, March 24. The softball team is scheduled to host Brockway, while the baseball team will play there on the same day. The Kane track and field teams are scheduled to kickoff their season on Tuesday, March 25, when they host Northern Potter.

Medalists reach out to young wrestlers

Seventeen young Kane wrestlers will be competing in Clarion this Saturday in the Area V finals, with the top two finishers at each weight advancing to the following week's PA Junior Wrestling Championship Tournament in Harrisburg.

Spring soccer

Some of the children signing up for spring soccer through the Kane Area Soccer Association pause from playing while Sandy Mishic of Milestones PT, LLC presents KASA treasurer Meredith Buhl with a check. Milestones hosted a Halloween party in October which raised over $600 in donations for the soccer association. More than 100 children participate in soccer through the KASA each year.  There will be two more registrations for spring soccer, Feb. 25 and March 11 from 5-7 p.m., at the Community Center.

Kane cheerleader Shelby Schreckengost was honored during halftime of Wednesday night's boys basketball game in senior recognition ceremonies. Schreckengost, pictured here with members of her family, was honored early so her service member family members could attend. The normal cheerleader senior recognition will be held Saturday at Kane's Mid-Winter Cheer Classic.
