Area V Champion Nate Asp medaled sixth in the 11-12-year-old 145-pound weight bracket at the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling Championships in Erie over the weekend.

Dance competition team attends Ohio event

Nikky’s Dance Studio Competition Team from Smethport attended Nexstar National Talent Competition over the weekend in Cleveland, Ohio. They received seven platinum and five elite gold medals for the 12 dances they performed. They received best in category and overall place wins for most of their dances. The dance “Timber” was given the Regional Champion award for their division, 12 and over, and they also received an invitation to worlds this summer by winning the Star Dance Alliance Award (being the highest scoring dance of the competition in their division).

Cheerleading sendoff last night

The cheerleading team held a Sendoff to Nationals event on Wednesday, March 18 at 7 p.m. in the Middle School Gym. There was a Full Non-Tumble Routine; presentation of senior gifts; MS Routine; and a Full Tumble Routine.

These 10 members of the Kane High School wrestling team will compete Friday and Saturday in the District 9 Wrestling Tournament at Clarion University. Wrestlers and their weight class include, left to right, kneeling: Joe Newton (160), Mike Good (220), Andrew Smith (126), Chuck Gardner (132) and Kyle Pierotti (138); standing: Andy Swartwood (152), Austin Hulings (195), Drake Mericle (182), Justin Westerburg (145) and James Lingenfelter (170). Wrestling begins at 3 p.m. Friday.

Senior football players lauded

The Wolves' senior football players were recently honored by the Kane Rotary for their great season and invited to lunch. Each player was introduced and spoke of their plans after graduation and also shared their most memorable moment playing football for Kane.

Jamie Lingenfelter honored

Jamie Lingenfelter was recently named the District 9 Defensive Player of the Year by D9sports.com. The Wolves' senior captain led Kane, as well as the state of Pennsylvania, according to MaxPreps, in tackles for the 2014 season with 177 stops. Lingenfelter was also named the Big 30 Defensive Player of the Year and is a two time AML and Big 30 All-Star. In addition to his 177 tackles, nine of which were for a loss, the Wolves' linebacker had two quarterback sacks, two interceptions, four fumble recoveries and a blocked punt.

Two members of the 2014 Kane Wolves football team have been selected to the Big 30 All-Star team (not to be confused with the Don Raabe Big 30 Classic). Linebackers Ryan Swanson and Jamie Lingenfelter are Kane's representatives on the squad.
