Wrestlers qualify for tournament

March 13, 2013

These 22 young Kane wrestlers have qualified for the Area V Wrestling Tournament to be held March 16 in Clarion. The top two finishers in each age/weight division will advance to the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling Championships at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg.

Kane's Nate Moore works for the pin in the first period of his consolation finals match against Clarion's Zach Sintobin. Moore ended up pinning his opponent in the second period to take third place at the District 9 AA tournament. The top four finishers at each weight class advance to this Friday and Saturday's Northwest Regional Tournament in Sharon. Looking on from the Kane corner is assistant coach Dan Moore, who happens to be Nate's father, and Wolves' head coach Mike Swartwood.

Evan Delong looks up to check the clock during his District 9 finals match against Redbank Valley's Cole Shirey. Delong and Shirey battled to a 1-1 tie through regulation, then the Wolves' junior kept his Bulldog opponent from escaping during the second overtime period to remain deadlocked 1-1. Delong then managed to escape late in the third overtime to get the hard-fought 2-1 win and the district title. Delong, along with teammates Cody Blankenship, Darren Brown and Nate Moore will wrestle this weekend at the Northwest Regional Tournament to try to advance to the PIAA Championship Tournament.

D9 AA Tournament

The Wolves' Darren Brown tries to tilt Smethport's Jake Abrams in the consolation finals match at the 138-pound weight class. The Kane junior defeated Abrams 7-0 to take third place in D9's AA tournament on Saturday and will move on to the Northwest Regional Tournament this Friday and Saturday. Looking on are Kane assistant coaches Eugene Brown (Darren's dad) and Cameron Moran.
