Senior golfers

Sarah Szymanski was the lone senior on the 2014 Kane girls' golf team. Szymanski will be honored along with seniors from the boys' golf team, cross country teams, marching band, cheerleaders and football players prior to Friday night's game with Elk County Catholic. Senior Recognition ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Paul R Miller stadium.

These three members of the Kane boys' golf team will be honored prior to Friday night's home football game. The three, from left to right, Tyler Blankenship, Trace Gordon and Justin Westerburg, completed their season two weeks ago and will be honored, along with their parents, at Senior Recognition ceremonies. At 6 p.m., senior members of the Kane golf teams, cross country teams, cheerleaders, marching band and football team will be recognized for their achievements and dedication.

Cross Country

Kane's Chris Udovich has had a busy fall for the Wolves. The junior is one of the Kane boys' soccer teams top offensive players and is also competing when possible for the Wolves' cross country team. Udovich is pictured here running at last weekend's Six Flags meet in New Jersey. He finished the course in a personal best time of 18:36 in 28th place. Teammate Hunter Yasurek was Kane's top finisher in 18:19, good for 22nd.

Kane vs. Otto-Eldred

Aiden Hulings carries the ball for Kane in last night's middle school football game with Otto-Eldred. The young Wolves defeated the junior Terrors 30-0 behind rushing touchdowns by Hulings, Noah Blankenship and Jake Alcorn. The Wolves' other touchdown came on a pass from Austin Jordan to Alec English. The KMS squad is scheduled to play Redbank Valley next Wednesday in Kane.

Tornadoes in action

The Kane Tornado Ponies lost 21-0 against a talented Coudersport team on Sept. 6. The Tornadoes struggled on offense against Coudersport's stingy defense. The Kane Tornado Pee Wees, however, continued their winning streak with a 12-6 victory over the Potter County team. Tornado quarterback Ricky Zampogna scored both of the team's touchdowns in the hard fought win.

Large turnout for 5K fundraiser

September 9, 2014

There was a large turnout for the first 5K fundraiser. Eighty-one total participants ran and walked, and several kids ran the fun run at 11 a.m. The PTO had a table set up with their display and they sold PTO T-shirts and had PTO member sign-ups. They had a few tables set up from the community and the Lions Club had their wagon set up selling popcorn, snow cones and cotton candy. Overall the event was a success.

Tori Schleicher heads upfield with the ball during the Lady Wolves scrimmage with Eisenhower on Monday. Schleicher and her teammates will scrimmage Punxsutawney on Wednesday, Aug. 27 before opening their regular season on Monday, Sept. 8 at Ridgway.

Sports Awareness Day

Kane All Sports Boosters would like to sincerely acknowledge the community for its support during our recent Sports Awareness Day. Here are a few athletes that participated in the event. If you missed out on the new air fresheners or window clings, they will be available at upcoming games. We wish the coaches and athletes a successful, safe 2014-2015 sport season.

Old-timers baseball game

Kane's 150th Celebration kicked off yesterday with the playing of an Old-timers baseball game at Glenwood Park's Pat Santilli Field. The game, played under the rules of 1864, was contested by teams of former Kane Independents, Kane Legion and Kane High School baseball players. Harry Whittemore, shown getting ready to deliver a pitch here during the game, was one of the former local all-stars to take part in the game. Hundreds of fans attended the nail-biter, which ended up 9-8.

3-on-3 youth basketball

Pictured are the winners of this week's 3-on-3 youth basketball tournament which was sponsored by Ronald McDonald Funeral Home. Members of the winning squad are, from left to right, Mason Zuzek, Austin Pierson and Andy Jekeliek. Next week's tournament will take place on Friday, Aug. 1 from 1-3 p.m. at the courts in Evergreen Park.
