Lion's Club concession stand

The pictures were taken at the two different Lion's Club concession locations along Fraley Street after the parade. The Lions Club teamed up with volunteers from of the High School Boys and Girls Soccer teams to sell popcorn, snow cones, cotton candy and water all along the parade route. Not shown in the pictures but also helping out were members of the cheerleading squad under the direction of advisor Chris Niklas who helped make popcorn Saturday morning to be sold during the parade.

"Millie" Kearney, who has been an active member of the Kane Volunteer Fire Department for more than half a century, served as the marshal Saturday for the Grand Parade for the Central District Volunteer Firemen's Association.

Boy receives award for valor

The Central District Volunteer Firemen's Association (CDVFA) has presented an award for valor to Lane Bennett (right) of Milesburg (Centre County). Lane was only 10 years old last November when he drove a Jeep a quarter mile to reach his grandfather, Michael Bennett (left) of Julian (Centre County), after the 53-year-old man suffered a heart attack. The two had been hunting together when the elder Bennett was stricken. The youth walked through the woods in the dark to reach the parked Jeep and drive it back to evacuate his ailing grandfather.

Rhianon Fowler (center) of Johnsonburg was crowned Friday evening as the 2011 queen for the Central District Volunteer Firemen's Association (CDVFA). The Queen Contest took place at the Kane Middle School auditorium as part of the CDVFA's three-day convention in Kane. At left, are Cassidy Noel of Irvona (Clearfield County), second runner-up; and Katlyn Diehl of Bedford, first runner-up. At right, are Sadey Crooks of Saxton (Huntington County), the 2010 Central District queen; and Ashleigh Woodward of Three Springs (Huntington County), winner of the Wayne D.
