Junior King and Queen

These 9-year-olds, who will be entering the fourth grade at the Kane Elementary School, have been chosen as the junior king and queen of the 41st Mt. Jewett Swedish Festival. Andrew Gee, the junior king, is the son of Steve and Sue Geer of Mt. Jewett. Kennedy Himes, the junior queen, is the daughter of Jen and Jim Himes of Mt. Jewett. The three-day festival concluded Sunday.

This group of local residents dressed as vikings participates in the parade Saturday for the 41st Mt. Jewett Swedish Festival. Barry Morgan, a Kane resident and representative of 97.5 "The Hound" radio station, volunteered again as the master-of-ceremonies and announcer for the parade.

Ray and Audrey Troutman have been chosen as the Senior King and Queen for the annual Mt. Jewett Swedish Festival, which opened Friday evening and runs through Sunday evening. Brittany Peterson (center) serves as the chairman of the Senior King and Queen event. The crowning took place at the opening ceremony Friday at St. Matthews Lutheran Church along East Main Street in Mt. Jewett.

Exchange student returns for festival

Johan Dunback (center), a native of Sweden and a 1990-91 foreign exchange student at Kane Area High School, came back to Mt. Jewett with his daughter and son for the annual Swedish Festival. His 11-year-old daughter Victoria sang a Swedish song at the opening ceremony Friday. His son is Johannes, 13. The family resides in Vasteras, Sweden.

Lilly Peterson, the 4-year-old daughter of Skye and Jason Peterson of Mt. Jewett, enjoys a trip down a portable slide at the annual Swedish Festival. The slide is one of many activities for children at the festival, which runs through Sunday.

Swedish Festival begins Friday

A banner across Main Street (Route 6) in Mt. Jewett reminds area residents that the annual Swedish Festival begins Friday and runs through Sunday. "Simply Swedish" is the theme for this year's festival. The parade is set for 5 p.m. Saturday on Main Street. The fireworks display is at 9:30 p.m. Saturday and can be viewed from Center Street-- the main site for festival activities.

Baylee Swanson (left) and Haley Williams (right) are the two candidates for queen of the annual Mt. Jewett Swedish Festival to be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Ashley Swanson (center), the daughter of Jeff and Missy Swanson of 143 W. Main St., Mt. Jewett, is the reigning Swedish Festival queen. Baylee, 13, is the daughter of Deb and Paul Swanson of 141 W. Main St., Mt. Jewett. She is the cousin of the reigning queen. Williams, 13, is the daughter of Bobbie Williams of 70 Brookwood Road, Kushequa, and Jim Banks of Cyclone.
