KHS track and field teams ready for districts

The Kane boys’ track and field team will try to make it four District IX AA titles in a row during Friday’s meet on their home track. The Kane girls, who have battled injuries and illness all season, will look to improve upon 2014’s third-place finish.
Sophomore Joe Newton will be competing in the 110-meter high hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles and the triple jump for coach Tom Cecchetti’s Wolves. Newton comes in to Friday’s meet as the second seed in the 110s and is seeded third in his other two events.

ECC hands Lady Wolves 2nd loss in 2 days

The Kane softball team ran into a buzz-saw Tuesday afternoon by the name of the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders. ECC beat the Lady Wolves soundly for the second day in a row as the Lady Crusaders jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the top of the first and cruised to a 20-1 win in Kane’s Senior Recognition Game.
The Lady Wolves’ biggest crowd of the year was on hand to honor senior players Daria Huckabone and Emily Truden, as well as statistician Anna Stanko, prior to the game. Unfortunately for the home fans, things went downhill rapidly after the festivities.

Elk County County shuts out Kane

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Crusader baseball team recorded a pair of shutouts on Tuesday in back-to-back games against the Kane Wolves and the DuBois Central Catholic Cardinals at Berwind Park. In the afternoon game, ECC senior Ryan Seelye three a three-inning no-hitter and struck out six as the Crusaders defeated Kane 15-0. In the nightcap, which was played under the lights, the Crusaders blanked DCC 4-0.

Crusaders spoil Wolves’ Senior Day

The Kane baseball team hosted the 12-1 Elk County Catholic Crusaders on Monday afternoon at Pat Santilli Field in the Wolves’ Senior Recognition game. Unfortunately for coach Bruce Kumher’s Wolves, the guests weren’t very gracious, handing Kane a 15-0 defeat in three innings.

PITTSBURGH – On Sunday May 3, approximately 34,000 runners took off from the corner of Liberty Avenue and Seventh Street in downtown Pittsburgh marking the start of the 2015 Pittsburgh Marathon and Half-Marathon.

Rain fails to damper 40th Special Olympics at Kane track

Rain and cool temperatures in the upper 50s failed to damper the 40th annual McKean County Special Olympics at the Kane High School track.
Over 260 Special Olympics athletes from throughout McKean County competed in the Special Olympics/Zippo Track & Field Meet.
Six athletes, whose names will be released soon, qualified to represent McKean County at the Pennsylvania Special Olympics State Games at Penn State, June 4-6.
Patrick Ryan, director of operations at the Futures Rehabilitation Center, Inc. in Bradford, again served as coordinator of Special Olympics.

Lady Wolves tied with Curwensville in postponed game

The Kane Lady Wolves hosted Curwensville on Tuesday night for a scheduled doubleheader at Flickerwood Field. The Golden Tide used a three-run third inning to help propel themselves to a 7-1 victory in the first game.
Kane coach Judy Kessler’s team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second game and led 4-2 going into the bottom of the fourth inning. The Tide took advantage of the rapidly deteriorating conditions and tied it up at 4-4 before the game was halted with two outs and two runners on base.

Kane baseball team loses heartbreaker in 7th, 9-8

Perhaps it was time for the fortunes to change for the Curwensville baseball team.
The Golden Tide had lost six one-run games coming into the contest Tuesday against Kane at Pat Santilli Field at Glenwood Park.
With an 8-3 lead going into the top of the seventh and final inning, it appeared that Kane (1-7) would defeat Curwensville (3-12) for the second time this season.
But the Tide plated six runs in their last inning at-bat and held off a Kane threat in the bottom of the seventh for a rare close win, 9-8.

Johnsonburg baseball edges Kane, 5-2

May 4, 2015

WILCOX – Johnsonburg baseball defeated Kane for the third time in five days as the Rams defeated the Wolves 5-2 Monday afternoon at Jones Township Community Park in Wilcox.
