11 Kane athletes ready for state meet

Ten members of the Kane boys’ track and field team and Savannah Anderson, a member of the Kane girls’ track and field team, will be leaving for Shippensburg University tomorrow to compete in the PIAA Championship meet.

Kane boys win 4th straight D9 AA track title

The Kane boys’ track and field team made it four D9 titles in a row on Friday, outdistancing runner-up Karns City 91-73. The Wolves had solid performances from their entire team to help them return to the top of the podium. In all, 10 Kane boys earned a trip to the PIAA State Championship meet with a first- or second-place finish in their events.

Savannah Anderson advances to state meet for Kane girls

Senior Savannah Anderson will represent the Kane girls’ track and field team at next week’s PIAA State Championship meet. Anderson finished second in the pole vault by clearing 9’09”, just three inches behind the event winner, ECC’s Hannah Onink. Teammate Angela Cecchetti also medaled in the event, taking fourth with a jump of 8’0”.

Kane Wolves end baseball season with 10-5 victory

It's been a tough luck year for the Kane High School baseball team with several one-run losses.
Through all the adversity, the Wolves never gave up.
Their perseverance paid off Friday as they ended the season with a solid 10-5 win over Brockway at home at Pat Santilli Field.
"I'm proud of these guys," second-year Kane coach Bruce Kumher said. "This win says a lot about their integrity."
Kane (2-10) lost a one-run game Thursday to Smethport and could have let that defeat affect their play in the final game Friday.

KHS baseball team comes up a bit short against Hubbers

A four-run fifth inning was the difference as the Smethport Hubbers defeated the Kane Wolves baseball team 5-4 on a perfect afternoon for baseball on Wednesday at Pat Santilli Field.
Senior Andrew Peterson started on the hill for Kane coach Bruce Kumher’s Wolves. Peterson allowed a singled to right by Mike DeLuca in the first, but allowed nothing else as the Wolves came up to bat in their half of the inning.

Johnsonburg Ramettes split doubleheader with Kane

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg softball split a doubleheader with Kane Thursday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School in Ridgway.
Kane won the first game 6-5 in eight innings before Johnsonburg took the second game 21-2 in five innings.

KHS track and field teams ready for districts

The Kane boys’ track and field team will try to make it four District IX AA titles in a row during Friday’s meet on their home track. The Kane girls, who have battled injuries and illness all season, will look to improve upon 2014’s third-place finish.
Sophomore Joe Newton will be competing in the 110-meter high hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles and the triple jump for coach Tom Cecchetti’s Wolves. Newton comes in to Friday’s meet as the second seed in the 110s and is seeded third in his other two events.

ECC hands Lady Wolves 2nd loss in 2 days

The Kane softball team ran into a buzz-saw Tuesday afternoon by the name of the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders. ECC beat the Lady Wolves soundly for the second day in a row as the Lady Crusaders jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the top of the first and cruised to a 20-1 win in Kane’s Senior Recognition Game.
The Lady Wolves’ biggest crowd of the year was on hand to honor senior players Daria Huckabone and Emily Truden, as well as statistician Anna Stanko, prior to the game. Unfortunately for the home fans, things went downhill rapidly after the festivities.

Elk County County shuts out Kane

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Crusader baseball team recorded a pair of shutouts on Tuesday in back-to-back games against the Kane Wolves and the DuBois Central Catholic Cardinals at Berwind Park. In the afternoon game, ECC senior Ryan Seelye three a three-inning no-hitter and struck out six as the Crusaders defeated Kane 15-0. In the nightcap, which was played under the lights, the Crusaders blanked DCC 4-0.

Crusaders spoil Wolves’ Senior Day

The Kane baseball team hosted the 12-1 Elk County Catholic Crusaders on Monday afternoon at Pat Santilli Field in the Wolves’ Senior Recognition game. Unfortunately for coach Bruce Kumher’s Wolves, the guests weren’t very gracious, handing Kane a 15-0 defeat in three innings.
