Wolves fall to Berries in AA non-league tilt

The Cranberry Berries made the long trip to Kane Monday night and headed south with a 58-47 win over the Wolves. It appeared as though the Wolves had the long bus trip as they started out slowly offensively. The Berries jumped out to a 13-3 lead after one quarter and although the hosts got to within eight, 52-44 with 2:25 left in the game, the Wolves just couldn’t overcome the early deficit.

Kane Lady Wolves defeat Lady Dutch

JOHNSONBURG – Kane girls basketball used a 9-0 third-quarter run to break open a tie game en route to a 42-33 win over St. Marys Saturday afternoon at the Johnsonburg Tip-Off Tournament held at Johnsonburg Area High School.
St. Marys had tied the game at 18-all on a Kaitlyn Barackman hoop with 4:30 to play in the third quarter. The Lady Wolves responded with a 9-0 spurt which started with a bucket from Sydney Dyne and was followed by hoops from Trinity Clark and Camryn Cummings. After Dyne split a pair of free throws, a Cummings layup had Kane up 27-18 with 1:19 left in the third quarter.

Coudersport edges Kane at Tip-Off Tournament

JOHNSONBURG – A runaway defeat turned into a victory for Coudersport girls basketball Friday night.
Coudersport rallied from a 16-4 first-quarter deficit to take a 44-43 win over Kane at the Johnsonburg Tip-Off Tournament at Johnsonburg Area High School.
Emily Morey hit a short jumper with eight seconds left to put the Lady Falcons ahead. Kane had one final chance but could not get a fluent possession together and did not get a possible game-winning shot off in time.

Wolves wrestlers lack numbers but have heart

The Kane Wrestling team had one of their best seasons in recent history last year, sending seven wrestlers to the AA Northwest Regional Wrestling tournament and having a PIAA Champion (Evan DeLong) and third-place state finisher (Cody Blankenship). Unfortunately for coach Mike Swartwood, only one of those regional qualifiers is returning this season, Austin Hulings. Swartwood has limited lineup options this year as he has only 11 wrestlers on the roster.

Lady Wolves optimistic heading into season

Kane girls’ basketball coach Dave Kiehl thinks this year’s team has a good mix of size and experience. Kiehl, beginning his seventh year at the helm of the Lady Wolves, lost two players to graduation and his starting point guard to a move outside of the district, but is adding some good young players that will see extensive minutes on the court.

Kane boys’ basketball looking to take step forward

Matt Gasbarre is in his second season as head coach of the Kane boys’ basketball team. Gasbarre led the 2013-2014 Wolves to a 7-16 record and a spot in the playoffs. The Wolves’ season came to a close with a heartbreaking 44-43 loss to Karns City in the District 9 AA quarterfinals.

Wolves drop season ppener to Wolverines

The Sheffield Wolverines used a big third quarter to propel themselves to a 66-53 victory over the Kane Wolves. The Wolves' season opener was pushed back from last Friday to Wednesday night after the extended football season had Wolves’ head basketball coach Matt Gasbarre holding tryouts just a week ago.

Wolves wrestlers pin their way to win over Wolverines

The Kane Wolves wrestling team opened their dual meet season in Sheffield on Tuesday night with an exciting 42-27 win over the Wolverines. Kane coach Mike Swartwood’s squad gave up four forfeits to the hosts but won six of seven contests wrestled on the mat. More impressively, all six of the Wolves to wrestle a match won by fall.

Dallas used the 3rd quarter to put this game out of reach. After a tightly contested
first half the score was 14-7 in Dallas’ favor. Dallas was able to use an early
second half turnover to score a 24 yard touchdown pass from Tony Romo to Cole
Beasley. They used great field position to tack on 2 more touchdowns before the end
of the 3rd quarter to make the score 35-7. Chicago made the game somewhat close
thanks to a 21 point fourth quarter of their own, but it was too little, too late.

Lady Wolves lose home opener to ECC

December 9, 2014

The Kane Lady Wolves opened their 2014-2015 season on Monday night against the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders in the Wolves’ Den. The young Lady Wolves tied the game at 10-10 early in the second quarter but the visitors went on a 13-4 run on their way to a 50-27 win.
