Kane native Laura Olson is a successful physical therapist specializing in pediatrics at Baltimoreâ€™s Franklin Square Medical Center. While the 2002 KHS grad spends her days working with children that suffer from cerebral palsy, she spends her evenings strapping on a helmet and practicing as a lineman, or rather, linewoman, for the Baltimore Nighthawks of the Independent Womenâ€™s Football League.
Kiersten Slater, a sophomore at Smethport Senior High School has been invited by Down Under Sports to run in an international cross country competition this summer in Australia. Slater, the daughter of Misty Sanders of Lantz Corners and Bruce Slater of Mt. Jewett, will be one of about 300 runners from across the United States to participate in the program this July.
The Kane All Sports Boosters held their annual award ceremony on Wednesday night in the Kane High Auditorium. Former Kane Wolves Head Football Coach Dick Smith became the third member of the organizationâ€™s Hall of Fame in front of a near capacity crowd. Seniors Evan DeLong and Morgan Nicholson were named Outstanding Male and Female Athletes while three seniors received Scholar Athlete Awards: Riley Austin, Haylee Mague and Brittany Kowatch.
It has been a year in the making, but through a collaborative community effort new hoops have been installed at the Evergreen Park basketball courts. The new hoops were purchased by a grant through the Collins Company, plans were approved by the Kane Borough Council, and installation was under the direction of Highlander Energy.
Former Kane teacher and Wolves Head Football Coach Richard â€śDickâ€ť Smith will be inducted into the Kane All Sports Boosters Hall of Fame tomorrow night at the organizationâ€™s annual awards ceremony.
Ten members of Kaneâ€™s track and field teams took part in Fridayâ€™s PIAA Championship meet at Shippensburg University. While none of the Wolves competing Friday came away with a medal, four Kane athletes are still in the medal hunt on Saturday.
Ten members of the Kane boysâ€™ track and field team will compete throughout the next two days in the PIAA Championships at Shippensburg University. Six Wolves will compete in individual events at the state meet, while the other four qualified as members of a relay team.
Two members of the Kane girls track and field team and 10 members of the boysâ€™ team left this morning for the PIAA Championship meet, which will be held on Friday and Saturday at Shippensburg University.
LUDLOW â€“ The Ludlow Community Association held its 10th Annual Childrenâ€™s Fishing Derby on May 18 at Wildcat Park. The day was enjoyed by many family and friends, with roughly 200 individuals in attendance.
