I am writing this on a very cold, blustery day just before Thanksgiving. I was out early this very morning in a rather calm, partly sunny beginning of the day. By mid-afternoon the wind picked up and snow squalls had begun to increase across the area. What’s new about this, I calmly asked myself, as I fought the gusts of wind while filling my bird feeders. This is typical northwestern Pennsylvania weather in late November. One minute a snowstorm, the next, a sunny end to the day.

Wolves defeat Golden Tide in overtime

Kane High sports fans have been treated to some fantastic finishes this week by the Kane winter sports’ athletes.
The Wolves wrestling team clinched the showdown with Smethport on Tuesday in the final match of the night. The Kane girls’ basketball team defeated rival Johnsonburg on Wednesday night in overtime.

Wolves wrestlers prevail in battle with Hubbers

The Kane Wolves wrestling team traveled to Smethport on Tuesday to take on the Hubbers in a battle between two of the AML’s top teams. The outcome wasn’t decided until the final match of the night, when Kane senior Nate Moore bumped up to wrestle at 220 pounds and pinned his opponent to give Kane coach Mike Swartwood’s Wolves a hard-fought 39-32 win.

Lady Wolves defeat Ramettes in overtime

The Kane Lady Wolves and Johnsonburg Ramettes played one of their usual barn burners on Wednesday night in the Wolves’ Den. After four quarters of regulation and a four-minute overtime period, the Lady Wolves came away with a hard fought 59-57 win in a game that was a make-up game from Saturday night’s Coudersport Tournament consolation game.

Cheer Games sees large turnout in Kane

The 2nd Ever Cheer Games at the Den was held this past Saturday with 21 teams in attendance from across the region. 
The morning session saw an Elk County domination as the winning team in the Jr. High/Middle School Division was St. Marys Area Middle School and the Varsity Scholastic Division winner was Elk County Catholic. 

Elk County Catholic defeats Kane boys on hardwood

The Elk County Catholic Crusaders had four players in double figures in Friday night’s 67-32 win over Kane in the Wolves’ Den. Wolves’ first-year head coach Matt Gasbarre wanted to slow down the ECC offense, and it worked for a time, but the Crusaders got a number of transition baskets late in the first quarter to get the offense on track.

Lady Wolves defeat Sheffield in home opener

The Kane Lady Wolves basketball team played their only December home game on Wednesday night and made the most of the home court advantage, defeating Sheffield by a 65-37 score. Coach Dave Kiehl’s Lady Wolves scored the final 10 points of the first half to break open a tight game and went on to win to even their record at 1-1 on the season.

Wolves defeat Wolverines in home opener

The Kane Wolves wrestling team avenged last year’s loss to the Sheffield Wolverines on Tuesday night in the Wolves’ Den. The Wolves registered six pins on their way to posting a 59-18 victory.

Football team honored

The 2013 Kane Wolves football team was honored at the Kane Quarterback Club's end of the season banquet on Sunday. Each member of the undefeated Wolves received a jacket with their number embroidered on the sleeve from the club. The 10 players selected to the AML All-Star team, pictured here, were presented with a football marked with their name, number and accomplishments on it. From left to right are, Jamie Lingenfelter, Jeff Kocjancic, Nate Moore, Nate Klaiber, Kevin Cleer, Andrew Pierson, Evan DeLong, John English, Tyler Rolick and Andrew Zuzek.

Wolves wrestlers open season with Hickory crown

December 10, 2013

The Kane Wolves wrestling team opened their season on Friday afternoon in Hermitage, and when the weekend was over, they came away as champions of the Hickory Tournament for the second straight year. Coach Mike Swartwood’s Wolves finished with 178.5 points, narrowly outdistancing D9 rival Smethport, who had 164.5 points. Rounding out the top five of the 18 team field were Jamestown, Ridgway and Maplewood.
