Kane foe in playoff game is in familiar territory

Kane's opponent in the "Elite 8" state football playoff game Friday night-- is in familiar territory.
The Blue Devils have won nine District 10 Class A football titles-- eight in the last 19 years under head coach Paul Piccirilli. 
Sharpsville, which won the state Class A football championship in 1997, will meet Kane on Friday at 7 p.m. at Slippery Rock University.
This will be the third consecutive week that Sharpsville has had a playoff game at Slippery Rock.

Kane state champ finds college wrestling ‘intense’

CLARION – Evan DeLong of Kane was considered one of the elite wrestlers in the state last year as he compiled an impressive 36-0 record en route to a state championship.
Now a freshman at Clarion University, DeLong is finding that college wrestling is “much more intense” and takes “a bigger commitment” to win.
DeLong admitted that some of his opponents last year in high school presented “easy matches” for the talented matman.
It’s a far different story as he begins his college career as the starter at 157 pounds for the Golden Eagles.

Kane Wolves top Rovers for district crown

CLARION – The Kane Wolves won the District 9 Class A Championship on Friday night with a 33-14 win over the Brockway Rovers. In a game much closer than the final score indicated, the Wolves pulled away in the final two minutes to win their second district title, the first coming in 2007. The Wolves used a balanced running attack, stout defense and timely passes to earn their title.

The Kane Wolves and Brockway Rovers have taken winding roads to get to Friday night’s District 9 Class A championship game. Both teams began their season 4-0 before struggling mid-season. Both Todd Silfies’ Wolves and Frank Zocco’s Rovers regrouped in time for the playoffs and won first round games against higher seeded opponents. After the Wolves dispatched the Elk County Catholic Crusaders 39-0 and the Rovers beat Redbank Valley 28-14, Kane followed up with an 18-8 win over KSAC champ Clarion while Brockway defeated Union 35-22.

Miami QB Ryan Tannehill threw 2 second half touchdowns to rally a comeback victory over Buffalo. Buffalo was moving the ball up and down the field early, but could not seem to find the end zone to cap drivers. They clung to a 9-3 lead as they kept Miami in check. Tannehill was able to rally his team’s offense to score 19 unanswered points to seal the game and second place in the AFC East.

Wolves drop Bobcats, eye D9 title game

DuBOIS – In a game that few people outside of the borough of Kane expected, the Wolves scored 18 unanswered points against the Clarion Bobcats to defeat the state’s fifth-ranked Class A team 18-8 in DuBois on Saturday night. The Wolves’ defense held the high-powered Bobcat offense to single digits as Kane’s offense dominated the time of possession.

The Kane Wolves football team will try to keep the season alive when they take on the Clarion Bobcats Saturday evening at DuBois High School Stadium. The Wolves defeated Elk County Catholic 39-0 last Saturday while the Bobcats defeated Curwensville 34-13 on Friday to set up the district semifinal showdown.
Kane coach Todd Silfies, who has led the team to a 7-3 record, calls the Clarion squad a “very talented and well coached team.”

ST. MARYS – The Kane Wolves got redemption for a loss earlier in the season to Elk County Catholic on Saturday night at Dutch Country Stadium. Although the Wolves outplayed the Crusaders back on Oct. 17 at Paul R Miller Stadium, the boys from Elk County spoiled Kane’s Senior Recognition night by capitalizing on Wolves’ turnovers and squeaking out a 13-12 win. The Wolves won the battle of the turnovers on Saturday night and dominated from start to finish as they won convincingly 39-0.

Wolves look to avenge one-point loss to ECC

The Kane Wolves are looking to avenge a late season 13-12 loss to Elk County Catholic when they take on the Crusaders Saturday night in the first round of the District 9 Class A playoffs. The Wolves enter the postseason with a 6-3 record and are the sixth seed while the third-seeded Crusaders come into the playoffs sporting a 7-2 record.
