Team effort earns Lady Wolves second place finish

April 22, 2012

On a less than suitable day for a track meet the Kane Lady Wolves put together one of the best team performances of the year by bringing home a second place trophy at the Kane Invitational Track Meet this past Saturday.
Kane only won one event on the day but had some great team showings in several events.
"This young team continues to achieve great things both on the track and in the field with our second place finish in AA schools," said Kane head coach Jim Sirianni.

Kane boys finish 2nd at Kane Invite

April 22, 2012

On a very dreary day the Kane Invitational track meet was held this past Saturday. The Kane boys track team finished with 65 points, which was good enough for runner-up honors to Port Allegany’s 67 points, who won the team championship.

Adventures of a wildlife photographer

April 20, 2012

This is part 5 in a series of my photographic adventure in the wilds of Alaska during the summer of 2011. When I last wrote, I was 92 miles into Denali National Park at the Kantishna Roadhouse. This is a privately owned camp, deep in the heart of Denali. I had spent the last three days hiking, fishing and photographing one of the most beautiful parks in the world. It was evening, and the rain moved into the area once again, shrouding the beautiful Mt. McKinley with a thick cover of mist and clouds.

Elk County hits three home runs on their way to win

April 17, 2012

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders softball team came out of the gate swinging and coupled with a brilliant pitching performance from Taylor Schlimm cruised to a big win over the Kane Lady Wolves.
The visitors got a big lift as leadoff batter Jessie Ginter just cleared the right field fence for a solo home run. The next two batters were retired before Schlimm reached on an error and Lyndsey Trumbull followed with another home run to push the lead to 3-0.
Kane pitcher Kyla Hoag was able to regroup and get the third out with a big strikeout.

The Ridgway trap team traveled to Kane and came away with a 2-shot victory in a tightly contested match. Top shooters were Reid Thompson from Kane with a 24-25 and Jared Casola 24-25. It was a good day for Kane as they shot eight points better than the first match.

Kane Lady Wolves down Brockway Lady Rovers

February 8, 2012

The Kane Lady Wolves found the going tough in the first quarter as a scrappy Brockway team was able to create turnovers and keep Kane from scoring easy buckets but the home team eventually earned a 52-37 win.
Kane held a slim 2-point lead after the first quarter. The second quarter would prove to be much better as Kane was able to break the pressure defense and have a big 18-point quarter and take a 12-point lead into halftime.

Adventures of a wildlife photographer

February 7, 2012

I’m often asked, being wildlife photographer, do I hunt? The answer is yes. In fact, I’ve hunted since I was sixteen. I can’t say that I’m a great hunter, but through the years I’ve been fairly accomplished. In the last ten years or so, I’ve been highly successful hunting with a camera, and not so with a gun. I think the reason for this is because I get so focused (pardon the pun) on getting that perfect picture, that I pay significantly more attention to everything that is going around me whenever I have a camera in hand.

Wolves earn hard fought victory with clutch free throws

February 3, 2012

The Kane Lady Wolves came out a little flat and the DuBois Central Catholic Lady Cardinals kept fighting before Kane hit some crucial free throws at the end of the game to seal the win, 38-34.
Kane fought out early on that the Lady Cardinals were here for a game. The Lady Wolves seemed to have the game under control but the scrappy Lady Cardinals kept inching their way and only trailed 25-23 after three quarters. They were able to limit Kane to only two field goals and one free throw in the third period.

The Lady Wolves (14-5) were led by a trio of double-digit scorers. Kaila Jamerson led Kane with 19 points while Audrey Perry finished with 17. Nerissa Rich finished with 14 points, eight in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Elkers (0-18) hung around with the Lady Wolves for the first three quarters as Kane held a 40-30 lead entering the final eight minutes.
Christine Schauer hit a field goal early in the quarter to cut the margin to eight.
