Kane wins turnover-laden game against Ramettes

JOHNSONBURG – Kane coach Dave Kiehl termed the game "sloppy" at times but his Lady Wolves rolled out of Johnsonburg in the snow Monday night with a 49-29 win, upping their record to 9-8 as they battle for favorable playoff positioning.
The Ramettes (5-12), shorthanded without two of their forwards, relied heavily on sophomore Nicole Myers as she paced all scorers with 17 points. The rest of the starting five notched just eight points while Emily Dillinger contributed two field goals off the bench.

Johnsonburg boys defeat Wolves 55-35

The Johnsonburg Rams improved to 9-9 on the season with a 55-35 win over the Kane Wolves Monday night in the Wolves’ Den. The Rams led 11-5 after one quarter. The Wolves rallied to go ahead 13-11 with three minutes left in the half but the Rams closed out the second quarter on a 10-0 run and pulled away in the fourth to get the victory.

Wolves indoor track and field team starts season

Members of Kane’s indoor track teams kicked off their season with some fine performances at Saturday’s Tri-State Track Coaches Association meet at Edinboro University.
Griffin Greenawalt, coming off of a standout season as an offensive tackle for the Wolves’ football team, set a personal record in the shot put with a heave of 45’8”, good for fifth place in the event. Also having a PR in the event was Matt Cecchetti with a throw of 35’3”.

Lady Wolves roll by Lady Wolverines, 67-23

The Kane girls’ basketball team jumped out to a 25-2 lead after one quarter of play on Friday night and cruised to a 67-23 win over the Sheffield Lady Wolverines in the Wolves’ Den. Nine Lady Wolves got into the scoring column as the Kane girls evened their record to 8-8 on the season with two weeks left to play in the regular season.

Kocjancic excels on the track for PSU

Danielle Kocjancic, a student-athlete from the Penn State Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, was among 68 Penn State student-athletes to have been selected for the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award for earning a grade-point average of 3.7 or higher during the 2012-2013 academic year.
A member of the Penn State Cross Country and Track and Field team for four years, the women's team were Big Ten Champions in Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field.

Falcons run by Wolves 83-63

The Kane Wolves hoped to build off the momentum from Monday night’s near miss against ECC when they took on the 12-1 Coudersport Falcons in the Wolves’ Den Wednesday night. The Kane boys played their best game of the season against the Crusaders, making 11 of 13 three-pointers only to come up just short, 54-51. Wednesday night, a big crowd and the Kane Drumline tried to spur the team on but a big second quarter by Coudy propelled the visitors to an 83-63 win.

Another year has gone by, and I must say, at breakneck speed. The older I get the faster the years go by. Has anyone else out there noticed that? The one thing that hasn’t changed for me is the passion I have for nature photography. It seems as the years go by, the more I want to get out and photograph, and share what I see with more and more people. The equipment has changed for the better through the years, with digital certainly leading the way.

Wolves wrestlers defeat Owls in shorthanded dual

The Kane Wolves wrestling team won Tuesday night’s match against visiting Bradford 30-21. Only five matches were wrestled on the night with coaches from each side moving some people around to allow the crowd to enjoy a little more wrestling. In the end the Wolves took the match due to three forfeits and pins by Chucky Gardner and Andy Swartwood.
Neither team weighed in wrestlers at 285, where the match began, 106 or 113 pounds. Bradford’s Jeremiah Fitton earned the first points of the evening with a forfeit for the visitors at the 120-pound weight class.

KAMS wrestlers defeat Owls 64-30

The Kane Middle School wrestling team rolled to a 64-30 win over the visiting Bradford Owls on Tuesday in the Wolves’ Den. Adam Sicher, Gunnar Fryzlewicz, Lane Hillard, Cameron Whisner and Alec English registered pins for the Wolves.
The KMS boys also had a successful trip to the Cameron County Middle School wrestling tournament last weekend. Wolves taking first place in Emporium were English, Aiden Hulings and James Fleming. Finishing second at the tournament were Ben Westerburg, Hillard, Fryzlewicz, Ty Stahli and Jacob Silvis.

Wolves lose a squeaker to ECC

The Kane Wolves boys’ basketball team gave the Elk County Catholic Crusaders all they could handle for 32 minutes on Monday in the Wolves’ Den. Coach Matt Gasbarre’s Wolves scrapped and clawed for four quarters and came up just short, 54-51, on an off-balance three-pointer by ECC’s Mitchell Struble with five seconds on the clock. The Wolves got off a three-point try just before the buzzer, but it was no good and the visitors left town with the narrow win.
