Wolves top Crusaders, advance to play Clarion

ST. MARYS – The Kane Wolves got redemption for a loss earlier in the season to Elk County Catholic on Saturday night at Dutch Country Stadium. Although the Wolves outplayed the Crusaders back on Oct. 17 at Paul R Miller Stadium, the boys from Elk County spoiled Kane’s Senior Recognition night by capitalizing on Wolves’ turnovers and squeaking out a 13-12 win. The Wolves won the battle of the turnovers on Saturday night and dominated from start to finish as they won convincingly 39-0.

Wolves look to avenge one-point loss to ECC

The Kane Wolves are looking to avenge a late season 13-12 loss to Elk County Catholic when they take on the Crusaders Saturday night in the first round of the District 9 Class A playoffs. The Wolves enter the postseason with a 6-3 record and are the sixth seed while the third-seeded Crusaders come into the playoffs sporting a 7-2 record.

I’ve often photographed birds that have bands on their legs. My conception of this process was the fact that someone was trying to keep track of these birds, somewhere or somehow. I’m still no expert at the whole idea of the process, but I’m willing to learn. I also have an ulterior motive up my sleeve, and that’s to take a picture of some rare bird that I haven’t seen before! So far, that last part hasn’t worked out so well, but I’m working on it.

Wolves roll over Clarion-Limestone in regular season finale

STRATTANVILLE – The Kane Wolves ended October like they began it… with a victory. While the two games in between were heartbreaking one-point losses, the Wolves took advantage of a week eight bye and regrouped to end their regular season with a convincing 48-6 win over Clarion-Limestone in Strattanville on a rainy, cold Friday night.

Kane wrestling club seeking donations to help build complex

The board of directors of the Kane Wrestling Club is asking for donations to help build a wrestling complex on a parcel of land that the club has recently purchased.
The club, which has been in existence since the mid-1970s, has been a significant part of the Kane community since that time. Hundreds of Kane area youths have been a part of the organization over the past four decades.

Wolves not overlooking Lions in regular season finale

The Kane Wolves’ football team, which began the season 4-0, is looking to make a statement in Friday’s regular season finale against Clarion-Limestone. Coach Todd Silfies’ Wolves have gone 1-3 in their last four games, with each of the losses being one-point heartbreakers.
The Wolves have had 13 days to get the bad taste out of their mouths, with a bye during week nine of the schedule. For Coach Silfies and his staff, the break could not have come at a better time.
"After a week off, we are excited to get back out and compete to close out our regular season," he said.

KMS girls win at Eisenhower, lose against Ridgway

The Kane Middle School girls’ basketball teams played away games at Eisenhower and Ridgway recently. Both the seventh grade girls and the eighth grade girls won against the Warren County squad but lost to the Lady Elkers.
The seventh grade girls picked up a long overdue win on Saturday against Eisenhower. Both teams were evenly matched on both ends of the floor.

Ramettes defeat Lady Wolves in 4 sets in Wolves’ Den

The Johnsonburg Ramettes won a match between two struggling teams on Tuesday night in the Wolves’ Den. Coach Bill Shuey’s Ramettes won their third match of the season 3-1, (25-18, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-15) to spoil Kane’s Senior Recognition.

Steve Jerman Memorial 5K event Saturday

The 16th annual Steve Jerman Memorial 5K Run & 2 Mile Walk was held on Saturday, Oct. 18, in Kane.
A total of 110 participants registered for the event, including 55 runners and 55 walkers. Temperatures in the low fifties produced excellent running conditions.
The first overall male finisher was Port Allegany native Sean Conklin with a time of 18:56. The first overall female finisher was St. Marys native Michelle Bauer with a time of 20:43.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Steve Jerman Memorial Fund, honoring the fallen Kane police officer.

Wolves lose heartbreaker to ECC, 13-12 on Senior Rec Night

In a scene that has become all too familiar to Kane Wolves’ football fans, Friday night’s game with Elk County Catholic came down to the wire, with the Wolves coming out on the short end of a one-point loss for the third time in four games. The Wolves jumped out to a 12-0 lead after their first two possessions of the game, but the Crusaders scored once just before halftime on a big play and again midway through the fourth quarter to leave town with a 13-12 victory.
