Bulk of Wolves’ soccer team back

The Kane boys’ soccer team struggled last year, a young team playing against some of the best soccer players District 9 has ever seen. Kane Coach Ernie Chamberlain’s squad battled through a long season and only lost one senior to graduation. Most of the players are back a year bigger, stronger and quicker and ready to get some wins under their belts.

Kane boys’ golf coach Nathan Smith has a number of talented, but relatively inexperienced golfers on the team this season. The veteran coach has a few seniors on the 2013 squad, but the golfers with the most experience are underclassmen.

Kane's Haylee Mague closes in on the ball during the Lady Wolves' scrimmage against Punxsutawney on Wednesday afternoon. Coach Allie Saquin's team will open the regular season in Smethport on Tuesday. The Lady Wolves have their home opener on Thursday, Sept. 5, when they host West Forest.

Local dairy farmer provides milk to team

Local dairy farmer Jim Detrick has been providing the Kane High football team with milk for two-a-day sessions for the last several years. This year he was the recipient of a grant provided by the Grassroots Dairy Promotion Board.

I have seen many strange things while on my photographic adventures, but nothing that couldn’t be explained. No, I’ve never seen a Bigfoot, or for that matter, have never seen a mountain lion. The nature I’ve photographed for the last decade or two, have been pretty down to earth, easily explainable. Yes, I would love to get that first crystal clear shot of a Bigfoot, or that image of that Pennsylvania mountain lion.

Kornhole 5K Run/ 2 Mile Walk/ Beer Belly Dash

Competitors in the First Annual Kornhole 5K Run/ 2 Mile Walk/ Beer Belly Dash are pictured on Saturday after the races. Mary Dinger was the overall winner of the 5K, crossing the finish line in a time of 22:54. The race was in memory of Kevin Lindquist and all proceeds benefitted Elks charities.

Kane Country Club Ladies Open

The Kane Country Club Ladies Open was held Tuesday, Aug. 13 with 68 women from 11 different clubs participating. Despite the early rain, the day ended with sunshine and a nice dinner and door prizes.

Pennsylvania rolls to 53-12 win in Big 30 Game

BRADFORD – The high powered Pennsylvania offense rolled up more than 600 yards on offense as they rolled to an impressive 53-12 win over the New York All-Stars on Saturday night at Bradford’s Parkway field in the Don Raabe Big 30 Charity Classic.

KASD trainer holds sports information meeting

Parents from each of the fall sports attended Tuesday night’s meeting held by Kane Area School District’s Certified Athletic Trainer, Krystal Nuhfer. Nuhfer briefly went over required paperwork with the parents and guardians in attendance before moving on to discuss a few medical issues.
