The Kane Wolves went on the road last Friday to face a tough Cameron County team in boys basketball action. The Wolves battled for four quarters but came up short against the Red Raiders, 56-39.
Coach Matt Gasbarreâ€™s Wolves led the 7-1 Raiders 10-8 after one and only trailed by a basket at halftime. The Emporium squad outscored the Kane boys 14-5 in the third on their way to the win.
ST. MARYS â€“ The Elk County Catholic Crusader basketball team faced off against the Kane Wolves on Saturday night in a game that was originally scheduled for Dec. 12, 2014, but was postponed due to inclement weather. The weather was not the best on Saturday either as icy conditions may have played a role in a somewhat low turnout at the ECCHS gymnasium. The Crusaders won the game 72-25.
The Kane boysâ€™ varsity basketball team rebounded from a Friday night loss to the hosts to win Saturdayâ€™s consolation game of the North Clarion Holiday Tournament against AC Valley. The Wolvesâ€™ junior varsity team won the title with wins over North Clarion and AC Valley.
Both the Kane varsity and Lady Wolvesâ€™ junior varsity teams won their consolation matchup against the Eisenhower Lady Knights in Saturdayâ€™s First Annual Kane Girls Basketball Holiday Tournament. The Lady Wolves varsity team squeaked out a 50-49 win over Ike while the junior varsity jumped out to a 19-6 halftime lead and cruised to a 38-16 win over the Warren County squad.
The Kane Lady Wolvesâ€™ shooters went ice cold in the second half of Friday nightâ€™s game with North Clarion. The two teams met up in the nightcap of the First Annual Kane Girls Basketball Holiday Tournament and the hosts got outscored 23-8 in the second half on their way to a 44-34 defeat.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg junior Kevin Benson (24 points) and senior Zane Hodgdon (15 points) combined Tuesday night to outscore the Kane Wolves basketball team (1-3) in a 69-36 win in the Paper City.
"I don't know what our shooting percentage was but it must be one of the highest that we've had all year, and that has to do with taking the proper shots," Johnsonburg head varsity boys basketball coach Bill Shuey.

The Kane Lady Wolvesâ€™ basketball team knocked their second consecutive opponent from the unbeaten ranks with a come-from-behind 35-32 win Monday night over Cameron County in the Wolvesâ€™ Den. The Lady Wolves outscored the visitors 10-4 in the fourth quarter to get the win and improve to 4-3 on the season.
The Kane Middle School wrestlers came home with the championship trophy from last Saturdayâ€™s Clarion Tournament. The Wolves outwrestled grapplers from 16 other schools to bring home the title.
Four Kane wrestlers won individual titles, Lane Hillard at 88 pounds, Alec English at 128, Aiden Hulings at 140 and Gunnar Fryzlewicz at 162 pounds.
The Kane Lady Wolves basketball team hosted an undefeated Curwensville Golden Tide team Friday night and werenâ€™t very hospitable, handing the Tide a 51-46 loss. In a hard fought game from start to finish, the Lady Wolves led by one at the half and hit some key free throws down the stretch to hold on for the win.
The Kane Wolves came into Tuesday nightâ€™s matchup with the Smethport Hubbers giving up six forfeits. While Kane got one back in return, the 30-point difference was too much to overcome and the Wolves ended up losing 47-24 in the Wolvesâ€™ Den.
