Cheerleaders compete at Erie meet

The Kane Area High School Competition Cheerleading team competed at the Shout! Great Lakes Championships on Saturday, March 14 at the Gannon Rec Center in Erie and came home with first place in the Varsity Non-Tumble Division and second place in the Varsity Division. This ended their six-week winning streak in both divisions. First place in the Varsity division was Villa Maria Academy out of Erie. 
"The team just wasn’t firing on all cylinders on Saturday," said Kane coach Chris Niklaus.

Kentucky went about business as usual. They beat an in conference foe thoroughly as they should. Karl Anthony towns had 13 points and 9 rebounds as they Wildcats finished their first undefeated regular season in program history.

Special Olympics Swimming Invitational held in Bradford

BRADFORD – Over 100 special athletes from McKean, Potter, Elk and Cameron counties gathered at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Sport and Fitness Center pool Friday for the annual Special Olympics Swimming Invitational.  The invitational is the culmination of the swimming season for most of the athletes, who have been in training for several months for this event. Seven swimmers, whose names will be announced, will advance to the Pennsylvania Special Olympics Summer Games at Penn State,
June 4-6.

Hulings takes 2nd place at state tournament

Seven Kane Junior High wrestlers headed to Hershey on Friday and wrestled in the state tournament this past weekend Saturday, Feb. 28, and Sunday, March 1.
Each wrestler would compete in a 42-man bracket comprised of three wrestlers from each of the 14 areas. 
Aiden Hulings’ talents showed off and he earned a second-place medal in the 147-pound weight class.
Aiden received a bye in the pigtails. Hulings then quickly started the tournament with a fall of 48 seconds over Wheeler of Hatboro (Area 11).

Kane wrestlers finish up season at regionals

SHARON – Two Kane wrestlers finished up the 2014-2015 season at the Class AA Northwest Regional Championships Saturday at Sharon High School.
In the 145-pound bracket, Justin Westerburg opened the day in the second round of consolations against Dalton Meals of Grove City and advanced with a back-and-forth 9-7 decision in the sudden victory period. Westerburg trailed 2-1 at the end of the first period with Meals starting the second period from the down position. Meals would escape for a 3-1 lead but Westerburg would even the bout with a takedown to go into the third period tied 3-3.

Kane wrestlers drop to consolation rounds at regionals

SHARON – Kane wrestlers will compete in the consolation rounds this morning after Friday's action at the first day of the Class AA Northwest Regional Championships held at Sharon High School.
Justin Westerburg wrestled at 145 pounds and faced District 10 runner-up Adam Fish of Seneca. Fish was dominant in a 14-2 major decision over Westerburg. After an early takedown by Fish, he added a set of two and then three back points for a 7-0 lead. Fish continued to add points to take the 14-2 win.

Auburn (12-15) 75

Kentucky played host to SEC league door matt Auburn and appropriately blew them out of the gym. Kentucky used a 23-2 run in the first half to break open a 27 point first half lead. They never looked back as Auburn never seriously threatened again. Karl Anthony Towns led Kentucky with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
