Adventures of a wildlife photographer

January 3, 2012

We are now into a new year. 2011 turned out to be a very good year for me photography wise. At the beginning of the year, I had no idea what to photograph, and with the long winter we were having, I was afraid I would miss some great winter shots. There were great opportunities out there, but most of my favorite places were snowed in, or I just didn’t feel like hiking into the woods with snow up to my waist. I know what you’re thinking! A true die hard photographer wouldn’t give it a second thought, trudging through the deep snow to get that perfect shot.

Poor second quarter leads to lose to Cameron County

December 22, 2011

The Kane Wolves were held to only two points in the second quarter and found themselves playing catchup the rest of the game against a good Cameron County team in a 40-30 loss.
The Red Raiders hit a big 3-pointer right before the buzzer in the first quarter to take a 6-point lead into the second quarter instead of a 3-point lead.
The Wolves' defense played tough but were trying to make big plays all night against a talented team. The free-throw line again was a problem as Kane converted only eight of their 23 tries.

Wolves pressure defense to much for Otto-Eldred

December 20, 2011

The Kane Lady Wolves got back on the winning ways with a convincing 55-24 win over Otto Eldred.
Kane, coming off a hard fought loss to Elk County Catholic on Friday night, wanted to get back to the things they have done in the earlier games. That is control the boards and play aggressive defense. The tight pressure defense led to several steals and layups throughout the night.

Elk County uses big third quarter to defeat Kane

December 17, 2011

Kane found itself on the short end Friday night in a 60-39 loss to visiting Elk County Catholic.
The Kane Wolves were able to stay with the Elk County Catholic Crusaders the first half despite only shooting five of 16 from the free-throw line. The Crusaders hit a big desperation 3-pointer right before the buzzer of the half to take a six-point lead into the locker room instead of a three-point lead.

Wolves improve to 3-1 with win over Sheffield

December 15, 2011

The Kane Lady Wolves again used a balance scoring attack to lift them to a win over Sheffield.
Audrey Perry again got off to a hot start as she hit for eight big points in the first quarter to lift the team’s intensity.
All 11 players that got in the game scored for the Lady Wolves.
Perry led the scoring with 10 points followed by Angie Geer with eight while Drew Victory, Kaila Jamerson and Taylor Bucheit each chipped in with six each.

Adventures of a wildlife photographer "Hidden Alaska" part 1

November 18, 2011

It is mid July just before 10 p.m. and I’m flying over the city of Seattle, Washington. The city is spectacular at night, with the famous Space Needle illuminated against the skyline. This is actually my second visit to the city. My first trip, over forty years ago, I was heading for the Army base at Fort Lewis. In that era, I felt sure I was on my way to South Vietnam, but as fate would have it, our company was deployed to another destination. You see, the Vietnam War was winding down, and the decision was made to reduce personnel going in that direction.

Kane cross country finishes on high note

November 9, 2011

HERSHEY - The Kane country teams finished the season at the state meet in Hershey on Saturday.
Taylor Beimel, Kristen Boyer, Avery Colson and Jon Gelsick all competed in the event, and all would have fine races in the final race of the year.

Brockway rolls by Kane in 44-7 rout

October 29, 2011

BROCKWAY - The Kane Wolves travelled to Brockway to take on the Rovers on a good night for high school football.
The Brockway Rovers used a strong running game and got some great blocking up front to open up holes for the running backs. They were able to collect two first downs and put the young defense on their heels early. Then with just a little under nine minutes to go in the first quarter they got back to back nice runs culminating in the first score of the game with a big 43-yard touchdown. The PAT was good.

Kane loses last game of season to Bradford

October 27, 2011

The Kane Lady Wolves ended their season with a loss to Bradford in a three-game sweep, giving them a 7-9 record.
In the first set, the Lady Wolves struggled to gel as a team, allowing Bradford to take a huge 17-0 lead before getting a point.
“The girls were just sort of out of sync in this opening set," said Kane head varsity volleyball coach Judy Kessler. "No matter what they did, it was a struggle. You have games like that and unfortunately when it’s against a strong team like Bradford, they’re going to take advantage of it and score a lot of points.”

Ramettes stop Kane in five sets

October 26, 2011

JOHNSONBURG – In a well played match of five sets, the Lady Wolves fell just shy of the win and a chance to go to districts as Johnsonburg took the match 3-2 (25-23, 25-18, 20-25, 20-25, 15-9).
