Adventures of a wildlife photographer "Hidden Alaska" part 1

November 18, 2011

It is mid July just before 10 p.m. and I’m flying over the city of Seattle, Washington. The city is spectacular at night, with the famous Space Needle illuminated against the skyline. This is actually my second visit to the city. My first trip, over forty years ago, I was heading for the Army base at Fort Lewis. In that era, I felt sure I was on my way to South Vietnam, but as fate would have it, our company was deployed to another destination. You see, the Vietnam War was winding down, and the decision was made to reduce personnel going in that direction.

November 9, 2011

HERSHEY - The Kane country teams finished the season at the state meet in Hershey on Saturday.
Taylor Beimel, Kristen Boyer, Avery Colson and Jon Gelsick all competed in the event, and all would have fine races in the final race of the year.

Brockway rolls by Kane in 44-7 rout

October 29, 2011

BROCKWAY - The Kane Wolves travelled to Brockway to take on the Rovers on a good night for high school football.
The Brockway Rovers used a strong running game and got some great blocking up front to open up holes for the running backs. They were able to collect two first downs and put the young defense on their heels early. Then with just a little under nine minutes to go in the first quarter they got back to back nice runs culminating in the first score of the game with a big 43-yard touchdown. The PAT was good.

Kane loses last game of season to Bradford

October 27, 2011

The Kane Lady Wolves ended their season with a loss to Bradford in a three-game sweep, giving them a 7-9 record.
In the first set, the Lady Wolves struggled to gel as a team, allowing Bradford to take a huge 17-0 lead before getting a point.
“The girls were just sort of out of sync in this opening set," said Kane head varsity volleyball coach Judy Kessler. "No matter what they did, it was a struggle. You have games like that and unfortunately when it’s against a strong team like Bradford, they’re going to take advantage of it and score a lot of points.”

Ramettes stop Kane in five sets

October 26, 2011

JOHNSONBURG – In a well played match of five sets, the Lady Wolves fell just shy of the win and a chance to go to districts as Johnsonburg took the match 3-2 (25-23, 25-18, 20-25, 20-25, 15-9).

Kane Tornadoes claim Olean Youth Football League Pony Championship

October 25, 2011

A first-quarter touchdown and a fourth-quarter goal-line stand allowed the Kane Tornadoes to claim the Olean Youth Football League Pony Championship in their first year as a league member.
The championship put the finishing touch on a season in which the Tornadoes had to win their final regular season game to get into the playoffs and then had to overcome the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in the South Division to reach the championship game.

Ridgway downs Kane in final home game

October 22, 2011

Under a steady rain the Ridgway Elkers came to town with two things in mind: spoil the senior recognition night for the Kane Wolves and improve their positioning for a potential playoff berth.
Prior to the start of the game, these four seniors, Gunnar Emberg, Will Hulings, Josh Kibbie and Mike Swartwood, were honored in an emotional senior recognition ceremony.
With emotions high the Wolves and the good crowd were ready to get things under way. With the field in very bad condition both teams would find the footing really tough.

Kane losses to Ridgway again in five

October 20, 2011

The Kane Lady Wolves started out strongly against the Ridgway Elkers and battled through five games but fell short of the win. The Wolves are now 7-7 with two games remaining while Ridgway took its record to 14-1.
“We played some serious ball tonight and did a whole lot of aggressive playing," Kane head girls varsity volleyball coach Judy Kessler. "Unfortunately, we had a few lapses and Ridgway has a strong middle who controlled the net a lot when she was in the front.
